A slight sense of drizzle in the air this morning didn't dampen the spirits of the 95 runners who gathered beside the stone circle for Event 6.
We had a short delay to proceedings as we were low on volunteers for this week, but as soon as we explained the situation to the gathered crowd, some very willing parents immediately stepped forward to ensure we could go ahead. If you have enjoyed coming to Hilly Fields junior parkrun in recent weeks, please do think about volunteering when you can to ensure that we can sustain the event - and if you can volunteer in advance of Sunday so much the better. You can 'opt in' to receive email information about volunteering (click on 'manage my profile' in the results email). Or if you use Facebook or Twitter you can stay in touch with us that way - check us out at facebook.com/hillyfieldsjuniorparkrun or @HFjuniorparkrun on Twitter. Or drop us an email - firstname.lastname@example.org. Or if computers are not your thing at all, just come and chat to us on a Sunday morning! It helps if you register (http://www.parkrun.com/register) and it means that you get officially recognised but it's not compulsory. The feelgood factor from volunteering at junior parkrun is quite something - and if you don't believe us, have a look at the research done by Join In, the national charity for sports volunteering - https://www.joininuk.org/volunteering-happier/
With all volunteers in position, including lead runner (and Peckham Rye parkrun Run Director) Kev, Sarah started the timer and off they went.
First through the finish funnel this week was Oliver Bright - a feat he has achieved at each of the five runs he has done at Hilly Fields juniors. He was followed by Jake Burnell and Alfie Young. We had PBs by all three of the girls in the female placings this week - well done to Melissa Amasse, Edie Crompton and Amelia Lawrence.
You will note that I say 95 runners took part today, rather than the 94 logged in the results, as I wanted to note that Matilda Stockwell also set off on the run this morning too. This was Matilda's 8th different junior parkrun course - quite the tourist! - but she had a bit of a tumble which put her out of action just as she was coming to the end of her first lap. We were glad to see that she was much improved when we got to the cafe to process the results. Matilda - do come back and join us again soon so that you can officially add Hilly Fields juniors to your statistics!
As I've noted earlier, our junior parkrun couldn't take place without the help of our volunteers. Thanks this week go to:
Clare BRYNLEY-JONES, Kevin CHADWICK, Paul CROMPTON, Barbara DAY, John DAY, Chloe ELWOOD, Jacqueline FRANCIS, Susan HANCOCK, Edward HILL, Verity MCGUIRE, Robin MORGAN, Andrew MUNDY, David NORCROSS, Lisa POWER, Adele PRINCE, Jean TAYLOR, Lucy TOWNSEND CHRISTOPHER, Laura WILKIN, Sarah YOUNG.
We're not affected by the Hilly Fields Midsummer Fayre next weekend, so we'll see you same time, same place next Sunday.
Have a good week everyone!
