Christmas & New Year Events

It's that time of year again...!  It's only 1st October but we like to think we're an organised bunch so we've just submitted the official response to parkrun HQ that once again we will not be doing any extra junior parkruns over the Christmas period.  But we will be running as usual on Sunday 22nd and Sunday 29th December 2019 and look forward to seeing many of you there!

Run Report For Event 222 – and news of the next junior takeovers!

What a lovely morning in Hilly Fields!

Bright sunshine and 147 eager runners - amongst them 18 people doing their first ever junior parkrun, plus 25 new PBs (including the first and second girls to finish - Edie and Emily).
We were delighted to award wristbands to Brandon who collected his blue half-marathon band, Bonnie who collected both her half-marathon and green marathon band, and to Clifford who collected his ultra-marathon orange wristband. Well done to you all. And shout out to Theo Gaymes, first finisher today, who was doing his 150th junior parkrun.

Massive thanks to our volunteers this morning:
Adam, Adela, Alex, Amanda, Anya, Ed, Eibhlin, Eloise, Hector, James, Joseph, Kev, Layla, Linda, Mateo, Oscar, Roni, Ruth, Sam, Scott, Sharon (who was one of our timekeepers today despite a hand in plaster cast!), Sky, Suzanne, Thomas and Zoe.

The big news today was about our next junior takeovers. These special Sundays where all of the volunteer roles are done by under-18s are always EXTREMELY popular events - and we have not one, but two junior takeovers coming up before the end of the year; on 6th October in 3 weeks time, and again on 24th November. The roster always fills up very fast so don’t forget to email us ( to bag a role for the juniors in your household. And this time around we’re opening up the coveted position of Run Director to all interested applicants. We got a few submissions of interest this morning at the park, but we’re also keen to hear from people during this week by email with applications to be Run Director (on either 6th October or 24th November), and we’ll be selecting some lucky juniors for the role soon!!

We also reminded everyone about our Big Half community places. Just a few left so if you fancy doing a half-marathon in London on 1st March 2020 at a reduced rate of £10 do get in touch -  More information on the Big Half here.

The other lovely thing happening in Hilly Fields this morning was the Marsha Phoenix Memorial Trust sponsored relay run. It was great to see so many of our junior runners and volunteers take part - as well as a big contingent of our Run Directors. Well done to our four junior parkrun runners Oscar, Jake, Ray and Lucien who won the event, completing 10k between them in about 42 minutes. And our Run Director Luke was on the 2nd place team along with some of the GoodGym gang. If you’d like to donate to the Marsha Phoenix event fund, don’t forget you can still do so online here at their Just Giving page.

Sam is on RD duty next week, check out the roster and do get in touch with him if you can volunteer.

Have a great week,
Lisa (Run Director Event 222)

Run report for event 210 – 23rd June 2019.

This mornings event was a record breaking one. It was our biggest attendance to date (273), and also our second largest number of first timers (65) since our inaugural event in May 2015.

As part of our outreach into local primary schools, we welcomed over 100 children and their parents/carers from Gordonbrock School in Ladywell this morning. Gordonbrock School is less than half a mile from our start line but only a few of their school community attend Hilly Fields junior parkrun each week. As a result, many of the children ran 2km for the first time today. We hope to see lots of you back in future weeks.

Well done to the 46 finishers who ran, jogged and walked a shiny new personal best time today too. Massive thanks as always to the 32 volunteers, many of whom volunteered for the first time as well. We hope to see lots of you back again running, jogging, walking or volunteering with us next week.

Run report – 30th December 2018

Hello, my name is Jake and I have done 142 junior parkruns at Gedling, Long Eaton, Rushcliffe and Hucknall juniors in Nottingham where my grandparents live, Highbury Fields, Mile End and Brockwell juniors as well as Norwich juniors while we were on holiday in Norfolk a few years ago. I have run Hilly Fields 126 of the 142 that I have run.

I have also volunteered at Hilly Fields over 50 times and today on the 30th of December I finished all of my volunteering for my Bronze DofE award. Therefore I intend to start running again next Sunday.

This morning it was quite dark, there was a little bit of rain and mud around the course but that didn’t stop the 85 amazing runners that woke up extra early to go for a run with their friends. There were 2 first timers and 5 tourists along with 12 people that achieved a PB today. There were also 30 volunteers that helped make this event happen. Thank you to Adam, Amanda, Andrew, Cameron, Claire, Edward, Eloise, Eric, Frankie, Glenn, Heather, Jake, James, Jennifer, Joseph, Jude, Kate, Kev, Laura, Layla, Lew, Linda, Lisa, Nick, Philip, Robin, Sharon, Sky, Suzanne and Zoe.

Thank you for reading and me and everyone else at junior parkrun will see you in the café next week.

These are some pictures that I took today.
