Event#143 Saturday 29th June 2019

Event # 143: Saturday 29th June, 2019.

Title

Homewood parkrun was blessed with blue skies, very warm weather, and the slightest of breezes. I did wonder if the conditions on my second visit to the Ottershaw venue was going to be just too hot (21°C at 09.00hrs), but as a lot of the run is through woodland and over trails the tree canopy blocked out the heat from the sun and kept the air pleasantly cool, and this helped a number of participants getting new PB’s.
It would be fair to categorise Homewood parkrun as ‘challenging’, and those new to the course will have now experienced the infamous ‘Achilles Hill’ - but it’s such a nice change to get away from the pan flat concrete courses.
The event went well as always due to the dedication of the core-team who are there every week through thick and thin, and to those mighty volunteers - especially those who missed the well-deserved round of applause before the start as they were already ‘in-post’ somewhere deep in the woods.

The pre-race briefing for first timers was given by Kate HICKEN outlining parkrun and Homewood protocols.

This was followed by Alison JAMES the RD for the day, giving an enlivened overview to the faithful waiting for the run to depart, making sure that special attention was given to the heat, and certain areas around the course.

At 09.00 the hooter sounded and 94 runners, joggers, plodders, walkers, dogs (with minders), and buggies (with minders) all set off in pursuit of their own personal quest, of whom 11 were first timers and 11 recorded new Personal Bests. Representatives of 17 different clubs took part.

The first female home was: Lottie AMBRIDGE in a time of 22.59, a PB, slicing 6 seconds off her previous best.
First male was: John ASHLEY in 19.01, a PB, slicing 7 seconds off his previous best.
The under 10’s produced a Shaw family double with JF10 Emily SHAW in 37.10, and JM10 Sam SHAW in 31.51.

A big thank you for all the First Timers (Jonathan Ford, Mark Gerrard, Marc Thomas, David Wilkins, Karen Higham, James Camp, Roger Wells, Mark Brady, Richard Manning, Debbie Ellis, and Liz Clarke) to Homewood and parkrun, and hope that the experience has whetted your appetite for another run.
