Hucknall junior parkrun is cancelled on 2021-06-20 – COVID-19 (Coronavirus)

Provisional Hucknall junior parkrun restart date

Hi all, exciting news, we are proposing a Hucknall junior parkrun restart no earlier than Sunday 27th June! We have to set in motion the following:

1) expression of interest to parkrun
2) permission from our landowner Ashfield District Council
3) once 1 & 2 have given permission, we'll see if the 27th is still viable and take things from there!

Volunteers
One major change when we restart is that timing and scanning will be app based. Please download the parkrun app and have a play to familiarise yourself with the way it works.

We are also on the look-out for new Run Directors. If you'd like to volunteer, you will need a DBS check for this role. If you are interested, please email our Event Director, Peter Clayton, on hucknall-juniors@parkrun.com

Looking forward to seeing our juniors and volunteers soon!

Event #193; the last one in March 2020…

Hi everyone, hopefully you will have seen the news that due to COVID-19 (Coronavirus), parkrun UK have suspended parkrun and junior parkrun until further notice. The official statement is here.

This sadly means we will have to delay our 4th birthday but rest assured, we'll have a belated party run when the time is right.

Back to more positive matters, our last run welcomed 39 runners to our fab course. It was also the Girl Guiding parkrun takeover weekend so if you are a Rainbow, Brownie, Guide, or Ranger and you ran, walked, or volunteered, you can buy a parkrun badge! If you would like one, contact us on the email address below and we can order them. They are £1.00 plus postage.

What a great badge!

7 juniors gained new PBs - Suzie, Matilda, Charlie, Eddie, Annabelle, Olivia, and Henry well done! Plus let's welcome Connor to our half-marathon club!

Fab running everyone!

Continuing our role responsibilities series, more roles are explained below:

Barcode Scanning volunteers scan your personal barcode, followed by the barcode on the finish position token. They often wear a bright orange hi-vis.

The Number Checker is responsible for recording (but not correcting) discrepancies that may arise between the timer and the tokens that are given out. At Hucknall jpr they are the ones with the clipboard.

Hope to see you when we are back up and running, we are going to miss seeing our juniors run and also our socialising afterwards...

Fab running everyone!

Continuing our role responsibilities series, more roles are explained below:

The Timekeeper is responsible for recording the finish times of all the participants at the event. At Hucknall jpr we have traditional stopwatches, but we are also increasingly using the new parkrun app to record times.

The Finish Tokens volunteer is responsible for handing out position tokens to all participants. They may be assisted by Finish Tokens Support if we are particularly busy.

Hi-vis heroes setting up the course

Continuing our role responsibilities series, more roles are explained below:

The Warm Up Leader carries out a basic warm up routine to get both minds and bodies ready for our junior parkrun events.

The Tail Walker stays right at the back of the field and should be the last person to cross the finish line ensuring that everyone is accounted for. They are encouraged to carry a mobile phone in case of emergencies. They let any marshal out on the course know that they can collect nearby signs and leave their post. Volunteers undertaking this role receive both a run credit and a volunteer credit if they are a junior. They also tend to wear our orange hi-vis so they are easy to spot!

Event #190; the soggy one after the 2 storms!

Hi everyone, great to see you all after an enforced 2-week absence! Storm Ciara and Storm Dennis scuppered our parkrunning but it was lovely seeing you all again even if it was a bit windy and muddy!

Your RDs trialled an alternate course after the run which may need to be used in future if the grass becomes too waterlogged. This would mean a bit more running on the paths and a little less on the poor grass. We'll let you know if this happens on the day in order to keep everyone running.

RD selfie!

We had 29 hardy runners visit us last weekend, welcome to our Hucknall jpr newbies - Emi, Charlie, and Abigail. 3 juniors also gained new PBs - Aaron, Miles, and Jack, great job in those conditions. And huge congratulations to Martha who ran her 50th parkrun and also brought some scrummy cakes!

Martha's muddy 50th!

And big thanks to our volunteers too!

The Event Day Course Check involves checking the entire route is safe to use on the day of the event. This was definitely needed this week!

Marshals guide and encourage the participants around the course warning them of any obstacles or hazards, as well as ensuring that other park users are aware of the event. They are also the eyes and ears of the Run Director out on the course.
Marshals perform a crucial function; if there aren't enough marshals then the event can't go ahead. So if you're taking part and see them out on the course, please say thanks (particularly if it's wet, windy or cold) and always follow their advice.

And remember, even if the weather isn't great you don't have to take things too seriously!
