Huddersfield parkrun Run Report – Matthew Kay

Thanks to Matthew Kay for writing us a run report!

Today it was"H", I'm not consciously doing the parkrun alphabet but another one of the list won't do any harm will it and what a great one it was.

The primary driver behind doing parkrun was a visit to see my friend from Manchester who has lived in Huddersfield for eight years and as yet I've failed to cross the Pennines to come and see him, luckily this time round parkrun helped tipped the balance.

After arriving to Manchester on Friday night from London and not getting to sleep until 2am making the 8am train was going to be a tall order but I was not to be deterred from the trip and even made the earlier trip of 7.46 with my friend Dan. He was coming along for his maiden parkrun and managed a respectable sub 30 for his first outing.

We were visiting our friend Joe who popped me by 9 seconds last time we did battle at Worsley Woods so the competition was due to be healthy this time round even though we both acknowledged we weren't in top condition, Joe also had the added handicap of a Huddersfield hangover and quickly took a backward step from the challenge opting for a sprint to the finish with Dan instead to also achieve sub 30, small gains.

Prior to the run, the friendly atmosphere I'd become accustomed to from parkrun was plain to see with a warm welcome from Steve and introduction to the RD, Mark. We then received a humorous briefing from Mark with a few quips thrown in to lighten the mood which was belted out over the speakers; then everyone herded together with typical northern spirit ready for the off and we were all cheered up the hill with the backing of Eye of the Tiger, a parkrun first for me!

Whilst a hot day, I really enjoyed the scenic run round the park ably supported by the marshals and members of the public and I look forward to returning again, hopefully with an improved time as I continue a return to peak fitness.

Huddersfield parkrun 13/12/14 – The parkrun that didn’t happen!

Cancelling a parkrun is not a decision we take lightly at Huddersfield, but on Saturday morning, the black ice underfoot sadly left me with no other choice. I posted on our social media pages https://www.facebook.com/Huddersfieldparkrun and https://twitter.com/Huddsparkrun) and sent an e-mail to everybody who has "opted in" to receive volunteer appeal e-mails from us  (It's really easy to do, just follow this link and it will explain everything http://support.parkrun.com/hc/en-us/articles/200566453-How-do-I-volunteer-), which explained our decision so my apologies if you turned up to Greenhead Park and were unaware of the circumstances. Martin Andersen and David Ibbotson stuck around for a coffee in the cafe to break the news to anybody who turned up, so I'd like to thank them both for that.

Simon and I then made the decision to head to Dewsbury parkrun, to see Tom Howard (their ED) and see if they needed any help. Turns out they wanted somebody to time, so we both took on that role! Tom was very kind to let us start the parkrun which was 6 laps of the top part of the park, with their pond being out of bounds due to black ice.

IMAG0372

IMAG0375

Dewsbury parkrun had 79 finishers, one of whom was our parkrun ambassador, Ronnie Bray. Ronnie was planning on coming to Huddersfield parkrun on Saturday but made the decision to head to Dewsbury once he found out we were cancelled. Hopefully Ronnie will be coming back to see us at Huddersfield one weekend soon! The weather looks to be warming up towards the weekend (an almost tropical 10c on Thursday apparently) so our Santa run WILL be on, as long as we don't get any more ice! I know there are probably lots of you who won't be in Huddersfield over the festive period, but there are lots of opportunities around the country to get your special Christmas Day/New Years Day parkrun fix, and the big Christmas Compendium is here  http://www.parkrun.org.uk/christmas-compendium/

For the month of November, we chose Lee Runton to be our parkrunner of the month. Lee has run 77 times at parkrun and has volunteered 8 times this year at Huddersfield parkrun. Lee completed his first ever parkrun on the 24/11/12 and has a PB of 20:20.

Well done Lee!

Hopefully see you all on Saturday,

Mark

Huddersfield parkrun 06/12/14

Huddersfield parkrun Run Report 06/12/14. Event 193.

This week was the first parkrun of the season where we were close to cancelling. As I arrived at the park at 8:10, the paths were quite slippy, and I considered if we could go ahead. Following a conversation, and a walk around the course, with parkrunner and volunteer Sam Davies, we decided we would go ahead with parkrun, but only if everybody was aware to be sensible and to take it steady. Thankfully, everybody took into consideration my advice, therefore in the future we will be able to go ahead with parkrun in similar conditions.
Lots of people say that the runners are running at their own risk, but ultimately if Simon or I make the decision that we are going to go ahead with parkrun in icy/hazardous conditions, the two of us are making the decision it is safe to run.
There was a slight revisement to the finish funnel as there was some black ice pretty much as soon as the runners crossed the finish line, so thank you to Simon Edwards for taking control of that situation, ensuring the safety of our parkrunners.
We had 394 runners this week (I think the cold, icy conditions put lots of you off). 16 brave souls took part in their first Huddersfield parkrun today, and 33 of you got a P.B! That's awesome, to say the conditions were... to put it bluntly, a bit rubbish!
Here are a few comments from our Facebook page from happy runners/volunteers:
Bridget Hughes "Thanks to the run directors for keeping parkrun going for us today and to all the amazing volunteers for cheering and clapping in the cold x"
Simon Edwards "Thank You to everybody for slowing down at our revised finish funnel, we had a couple of Bambi moments so had to have a quick move around. Nice to see people working with the volunteers to keep everybody in 1 piece and that the run can keep going in winter."
Caroline Thomas "All defrosted now though. And when my fingers started to freeze, I clapped and cheered runners and they warmed up. Bonus!"
Simon Donovan "Volunteers did a sterling job in the subzero - at least we had the running to keep us warm. Cheers guys (and gals)"
Steve McTavish Gapchenko "Thankyou Huddersfield park run dudes! Great run this morning! Getting colder & colder out there folks that doesn't mean we stop running though! We Just run faster!"

Huddersfield parkrun run report 11/10/14

Firstly this week apologies to Nathaniel Stock who not only finished 6th overall last week but also reached his 100th parkrun and was missed off the run report. Congratulations Nathaniel.

It was good to see a few people sporting some of the new parkrun merchandise by Adidas available from wiggle www.wiggle.co.uk/parkrun/

I have got the fleece myself and it was excellent to run in this morning with it being a bit chilly. I can also recommend the 10th anniversary t-shirt. Don't worry the profits from the gear goes straight to parkrun! One of the best things about our superb Huddersfield parkrun is the different people that take part each week. Despite them having their own junior parkrun on Sundays it always great to see the number of kids running. I regularly get overtaken and out sprinted by them and it's fantastic that they aren't sat at home watching the tv or playing computer games they are out running and that all thanks to parkrun!

Talking about our junior parkrunners, Dexter Pattison was featured in The Huddersfield Examiner website over the weekend.......We think that's pretty awesome! (http://www.examiner.co.uk/news/west-yorkshire-news/dexter-pattison-aged-six-mini-7921267)

If there are any people, events or stories you would like to be included in the weekly parkrun report let us know. Alternatively have a word with me on a Saturday morning, I think I am the tallest runner at Huddersfield (not to be confused with our FANTASTIC 26 minute pacer David Bailey)

Thanks you to all our brilliant volunteers, without you our parkrun wouldn't be half as fantastic as it is!

Well-done to the 31 first time parkruns who joined our parkrun family this week. See you again at the wonky lamppost again next week!

This week we had 140 personal best times, how great is that?

Congratulations to the 5 latest members of our parkrun 10, 50 100 clubs.

Run Report Event No. 184 – 4th October 2014

Today was parkrun’s 10th birthday, Huddersfield parkrun was celebrating and we didn’t let the weather rain on our parade. The birthday celebration theme was community with all runners and volunteers encouraged to wear shirts/top from the community groups they are involved with. We had many members of our fantastic local running clubs in their club vests. Other local sports clubs were also in evidence. Local rugby league, rugby union, football and Aussie rules club shirts were on show. I am sure there were many other community group members running as well. Don’t forget when you wake up on Saturday morning if it’s raining get out of bed and parkrun – running in the rain makes you stronger!

If there are any people, events or stories you would like to be included in the weekly parkrun report let us know.

Run Report Event No. 135 – 2nd November 2013

Huddersfield parkrun was “back to normal” this week… well as normal as you lot will allow it to be. We had a wonderful turnout of 446 runners and you all seemed a lot less spooky than you did the week before.

We had 4 dozen (that’s 48, to save you reaching for your calculator) first timers this week, with 10 of them visiting us from other parkruns!

I hope everyone enjoyed our heckling volunteers! Look at all of the fun YOU could be having by volunteering! It’s truly awesome!

Jude FAULKNER (above, in the JUDE top) had an amazing parkrun day in our eyes. As she passed the war memorial in the park for the first time on Saturday morning, she completed a personal challenge of covering 78 miles which equates to the distance from her house to her friend’s Maria Britton’s in Hull.

It was in memory of Maria, who sadly lost her battle with cancer. Doubly incredible is that parkrun coincided with Jude’s own anniversary of starting cancer treatments 4 years ago.

Incredible story, and an incredible woman and we are humbled and honoured that she shared that very special moment with us at Huddersfield parkrun.

If you would like to read more about Jude and her achievements (which included triple marathons!) then the Examiner has a good write-up for you to read. Well done Jude!

I’m sure it was a pretty special parkrun for the 110 of you who achieved a PB this week! Cowabunga!

Amongst those was Brandon HOLROYD who got a mention last week for breaking his two year held PB by a single second! You wait two years for a PB… and two come along at once! He wasn’t messing around this week though, as it was a HUGE 15 seconds off his time. That’s a lot of time when your PB is 18:24! Well done AGAIN Brandon!

Dexter PATTISON also got a huge PB. Pushed himself around on his 10th parkrun and smashed out a PB of 32:55! WOW! You can wear that white t-shirt with pride once it arrives! As can junior parkrunner Luis NORTH! Well done to both of you young men!

Alan PHILLIPS and Mark COPE can wear their shirts with pride too. They both achieved their 50th parkruns with us this weekend! Well done chaps!

We didn’t have a bunny in the park this week, but we did manage to sneak one off to Bushy parkrun! A whopping 270 parkrunners managed to beat our bunny Simon BRASS there… but a massive 997 definitely saw him coming!

YAY! The message about stapling your barcode to your face seems to be working. Only 16 of you didn’t manage the one simple thing we ask you to do every week. Well done everyone (except 16 of you… you know who you are!)

This week’s first finisher was once again Simon COURTNEY in 16:43. He was closely followed by Tom KAYE in 16:51. Our third finisher was someone completely brand new to parkrun - Rob OWEN. Well done Rob, an excellent first parkrun, and a great first PB of 17:08. Hope we see you back soon, smashing that PB! Great running guys!

First female this week was also a completely new parkrunner… Liz WOODFIELD. Welcome Liz and well done on setting your first time PB of 20:27. We also want to see you back smashing that! Second lady was Emma BURKE in 21:05, closely followed by Jen WOLSTENHOLME who got a new PB of 21:25. Her third PB in three weeks! That’s consistency! Well done Jen and well done ladies!

potm

Every month, thank you to the wonderful people at parkrun UK and Sweatshop, we are able to reward one of our lovely parkrunners with a monthly prize. This month, we have chosen Laura ELLIS. Laura is on her 43rd run, which have all been at Huddersfield so chances are you’ve seen Laura at some point in your travels. Laura pushes herself consistently at parkrun and has been an inspiration to many without even realising she is doing so. Recently she achieved her PB of 41:57, and we hope that some lovely new shoes from Sweatshop will get her yet another PB and keep her coming back to Huddersfield parkrun to inspire even more parkrunners. Well done Laura!

Bunny Buzz

I’ve decided to link to a blog entry this week, written by regular parkrunner Matthew PATTISON. Here’s a little snippet…

We hope that you enjoyed your first parkrun Gina! We really enjoyed having you there and your new PB of 37:11 is just BEGGING to be smashed! Hopefully we’ll see you next week? And the week after that? And the week after that? And the week aft….

parkrun is NOT a race, but we can’t help but love these little personal smackdowns from time to time… and for those curious, the scores on the doors were Robin STEWART achieved a new PB of 21:18! BOOM! Jason BATTYE didn’t get a new PB and came in at… 22:25! DOUBLE BOOM! Well done Robin!

We love to hear from you all, so why not chat to us on Facebook, tweet with us @huddsparkrun or send us an email about your parkrun days and experiences - we read every single thing!

See you mob on parkrun day,

Run Report Event No. 133 – 19th October 2013

Another week, another fantastic parkrun!

458 of you decided to join us on a not-particularly glorious day, which frankly, is incredible. Do you realise that your continued passion and support meant that we had the third largest attendance of any parkrun in the WORLD this week? That is quite special, and we’re incredibly humbled by all of you coming out to run with us.

A large chunk of that is due to the wonderful new people we seem to have every single week - and this week was no exception - 48 of you said “hello” for the first time this week. And we said “hello” back. Welcome to the family. Come again, bring a friend!

Next week would be a good time for friends... we're hosting our All Hallows Eve parkrun so they can dress up as something spooky! It's a good time for shy people to wear a mask and scare the running shorts off their buddies!

Of those of you that have been here before… wow! 81 personal bests! Brilliant running everyone! Amongst those we had notable bests from Ben HARTLEY - almost a year since he’s ran at Huddersfield, and this is only his second time here (his regular parkrun is the lovely Leeds parkrun). It’s always great to see someone make a huge PB on their return visit. Well done Ben.

Also well done to another visitor Alex RUTSON who got a PB at Huddersfield on his 7th try! Consistent runs for almost a year on every visit to Huddersfield from his regular Pontefract parkrun... but this time he smashed it! Great running Alex!

Well done to the 334 of you who managed to beat our bunny this week (pictured above) the amazing Andrew LAIRD BUNNY. He was a tough contender, being paced excellently by Jonathon SPENCER who managed to get a triple celebration this week by neating the bunny, smashing his personal best and earning his 10 t-shirt! ALL KINDS OF AWESOME!

There was also a 10 t-shirt earned by Philip MATHEW this week - well done Philip! We look forward to seeing both of you in your lovely white shirts soon!

On a slightly sad note… 19 of you forgot your barcodes this week :( We all do it at least once, but we URGE you to start carrying spares in your car, attached to your clothes, sellotaped to your face… or you can buy a fancy plastic one from the official supplier.

It’s particularly sad this week, because our two first finishers this week… forgot their barcode! That could have been a course record! It might have been the kind of times which Mo Farah would be proud of! We will never know. DONT FORGET YOUR BARCODES! #DFYB

Thankfully, third finisher remembered his. Martin SCHOFIELD will be happy too, because it was his course PB of 17:28, and his 112th run! He usually likes to share his time between Heaton and Oldham as well as travelling around a whole host of parkruns… but I’m sure he’s still proud of a course PB at Huddersfield!

Ladies, it seems, are much better at remembering their barcodes. First female finisher was Jacqui KHOUEIRY in 20:01, followed by Liz WOODFIELD with a huge PB of 20:43, and third finisher being Kirsty HENDERSON in 21:27. We’ve no idea what sort of rigourous training Holmfirth Harriers AC are putting their females though… but apparently it’s working! Well done all!

Bunny Buzz

See you all on parkrun day! Stay spooky…

Run Report Event No. 132 – 12th October 2013

Guess who's back... back again... Bunny's back... tell a friend...

...but that's not all! I'm picking up from where I left off. Last time I spoke to you all, I was inviting you to our annual birthday party. It was special for several reasons, but mostly because we bid farewell to our long time and long suffering Event Director Kerry "The Boss" Noble. There were tears...

Guess who's back... back again... Kerry's back... tell a friend...

...and this time, she had a new addition. The gorgeous baby Albie. Kerry was, and remains, a huge part of Huddersfield parkrun - and we were delighted to have her back behind the megaphone (apologies to our neighbours near the park) for this week. There were tears...

All that shouting must have worked though - it brought a massive 424 of you out to play! That's a little bit special, especially as it was looking so murky when I first popped my head out of the warren.

Your magical running stopped the weather in its tracks though, and it stayed dry for the duration of parkrun! Thank you to Nicola FORWOOD from the parkrun show (you should already listen, but if not, do!) for bringing along the weather faeries to clear it all up for us.

Also, massive thanks to the 39 new faces we had hopping around the park with us today! It was so lovely to meet you all! If you were visiting, I hope you go home and tell everyone about us... if you were new to the parkrun experience - YOU. ARE. AMAZING! Welcome to the family! We hope we see you again soon :)

Congratulations must go to Linda BREWIS for achieving her 50th run at parkrun... and her 50th run at Huddersfield parkrun! A true Huddersfield parkrun passionista! Well done and thank you for your huge support of our parkrun!

Now for some more numbers... with 81 of you smashing your PB's! BAM!

One noticeable PB is Nicky BEST, who is on his 104th parkrun - and coincidentally 4 of them are with us in Huddersfield. His time of 22:46 today gives his best time here in well over a year! Welcome back and well done!

Another amazing PB goes to Brett RHODES. Those of you who Brett will be aware that he's had a fair bit of time away from running due to injury. He's slowly getting back into peak condition and that shows with his new 23:38 PB! Over a year since his last PB, and almost a 2 minute improvement!

If you want to see something spectacular, keep your eyes on young Jake RHODES in the coming weeks... he'll be determined to beat Dad again!

First fella finisher was Tom KAYE in 17:03 - that's his 6th first finishing spot! Incredible! Just behind him were Gareth BURRELL and Nathaniel STOCK... Speedy work chaps! Coincidentally, this is Nathaniel's 3rd week of 3rd positions - I'm sure he's hoping to break that cycle in a positive way soon! Good luck Nat!

First female finisher was Abbi MORROW in 19:51 - on her very first parkrun EVER! That's one way to make an entrance Abbi! Well done! She was followed by Anna CHARLESWORTH and Jennifer Lynne YATES. Awesome running ladies!

Every month, thank you to the wonderful people at parkrun UK and Sweatshop, we are able to reward one of our lovely parkrunners with a monthly prize. This month, we have chosen Farhad BAHADORI. Farhad is on his 44th run, so that 50 shirt is fast approaching. He ran every week this month and managed to blast out a huge 24:07 PB! We're hoping the new shoes will get him well on his way to yet another personal best! Well done Farhad!

words

A couple of tweets and blog kept us entertained this week...

The results don't lie! A new PB! Well done Helen! Especially after seeing your blog post about us earlier this week. We're actually quite fond of the name "Hillyfilled parkrun", even though it's just a teeny tiny hill!

Whatever you did during that late night run obviously worked! A new PB by 23 seconds! I reckon more people will be camping out in the park in the coming weeks if that's what they can achieve.

We love hearing from you all throughout the week, so why not chat to us on Facebook, tweet with us @huddsparkrun or send us an email about your parkrun days and experiences - we look forward to it!

volunteers

An incredible team this week, as mentioned headed by the superb Kerry Noble. It all ran swimmingly and it seemed like there were millions of you lining the course, you were cheering so hard! We're so lucky to have so many passionate parkrunners.

Run Report Event No. 107 – 6th April 2013

We had to call off last weeks' parkrun due to the silly snow and ice making it unsafe for us to run around the park. It's a shame because I really wanted to give you all one of these special invites...

bunny-invite1

bunny-invite2

...oh well, you have it now! So hopefully we will see lots and lots of you in the park on Saturday morning... and then see a lot of you again on the evening! It's going to be ALL KINDS OF AWESOME! Bring a friend! Bring two! If you have more than 20 friends... bring them all! Why not invite your entire facebook following to join you? We'll try and have enough cake to go around.

But that's next parkrun day... what about this week? We had 307 runners join us, including a crop of 29 first timers! Some of you have been chomping at the bit, due to not running in so long and we managed to have a massive 72 personal bests!

We also had our 20,000th runner pass the chalk finish line this week. That was Huddersfield parkrun regular David HARPIN! Coincidentally, David was our Bunny this week, which means that not only did 111 beat the bunny this week (with his time of 25:13), but 19,999 of you have beaten the 20,000th bunny to cross the line! Good hopping everyone! That's incredible!

It also means that we've also crossed the 100,000km threshold, and David was the one to bring home that magical mile. We're currently at a total of 100,975km ran in total in the past 2 years of Huddersfield parkrun. That's twice around the earth... then halfway around again for a quick stop off in Australia. Thankfully, there's parkrun there too!

Lots to shout about at the front of this week's pack too. Thomas TRAVISS-POLLARD was first finisher with a brand new PB of 15:58! Hot on his heels, and earning his parkrun 50 shirt at the same time was David WATSON in 16:19. Third was another PB in the form of Gareth BURRELL and his 16:40 - fantastic running guys!

Yet more shouting to be done for the ladies field. First female home was Julia JOHNSON wielding her new PB of 20:00, followed by Diane WAITE and her new PB of 21:24. Third lady home, and no PB, but by far the highest age graded result this week (90.50% - WOW!) was Lynne MANNION in 21:45 - incredible running ladies!

parkrunner-month

Every month, thank you to the wonderful people at parkrun UK and Sweatshop, we are able to reward one of our lovely parkrunners with a monthly prize. This month, we have chosen the fantastic Dan DENTON. Dan was one of the few runners who managed to make every event we held in the snowy month of March (including being one of the infamous "Snowy 29") and even managed to earn himself a new PB of 20:33 at one of the events. Fast approaching his 50th run with us at Huddersfield we think he'd look smashing running around on his 50th run in a new pair of shoes! Well done Dan!

From the postbag of huddersfieldoffice:

Just to say I thoroughly enjoyed the event today, my first, the organisation of the event was first class.

It was particularly enjoyable because I had a great run over the last 500m against Simon Lake.

I think there should be a space on the web site where people could make comments about the day (e.g. I'd like to congratulate Simon who did a pb on his 101st run and who came and shook hands with me after the event).

David Ibbotson.

Thank you for your email David. We will join you in your congratulations for Simon Bruce LAKE and his 20:25 PB at Huddersfield! Thank you for joining us for your first ever parkrun, and we hope you'll be back soon. Maybe Simon will be back soon too, to try and better that PB, and perhaps stoke the friendly rivalry!

As for the space on the website... this is it guys! You can get your messages here by emailing us, tweeting us and facebooking us. We read everything and some of it will end up right here!

volunteers
A teeny tiny glitch in the volunteer matrix means that I haven't got a full list of volunteers to post here this week... but I can tell you without the list that every single one of them was JAW-DROPPINGLY-INCREDIBLE!

We seriously cannot run this event week after week without you guys, so thank you, thank you, thank you... if you want to be part of the team then drop us a line. You'll be right at the heart of the loveliest volunteer team in the world!

I need to go and pick what socks I will be wearing to the big birthday party this weekend now, I hope to see every single one of you there!

Run Report Event No. 106 – 23rd March 2013

snowrun-1

I have no idea how many of you peeked from beneath your snuggly warm duvets last parkrun day, but if you did venture a peek you will have seen a blanket of white. The parkrun weather demons had been out in force overnight and with -2°c tempratures and -9°c windchill, we completely understand that many of you didn't want to get out of bed.

Thankfully, back at the Huddersfield parkrun commune, we all rolled over and one fell out... Mark "The Snake" Nicholson! Snakes are not really known for their love of the colder climes, so we were all in shock when Mark declared parkrun as "SNOWY BUT OPEN". Words can't really describe such a brave decision... but the Examiner tried. They picked intrepid.

We still managed to break parkrun records. We now have our smallest attendance to date - a hugely impressive 29 people decided to brave the cold weather and make their way to the park from far and wide. Ian TAYLOR even managed to run to the park from Flockton, arrive a little late, and still managed to get around the 5k course in 46:48. Impressive stuff!

Speaking of parkrun records, believe it or not we had ZERO personal bests being set this week. I'm sure that all 29 runner beat their knee-high-in-the-snow-parkrun PB's though, which is something.

First past the post this week was our current course record holder Matthew PIERSON in 19:52. A little way from his 15:05 PB, but hugely impressive in the conditions. Following in his footsteps, literally, was Liam GOUGH in 21:37 and Jonny CARTWRIGHT in 22:29.

For the ladies we had Bridget HUGHES first to the line in 29:22, followed by Pauline OGDEN in 30:30 and Alison FARRAR in 33:03. Again, massively impressive in the conditions.

In fact, everyone did brilliantly, I don't think I've ever such a high smile quotient on a parkrun day. Every single one of the 29 participants on parkrun day were in high spirits and just happy to have the chance to parkrun. Thank you to each and every one of you.

snowrun-2

Thank you to those who didn't come too. We're here every single week (weather and other forces permitting), and we'd much rather have safe, happy parkrunners who are able to come week after week after week than unhappy, injured parkrunners who travelled in bad conditions. We will try all we can to ensure parkrun happens, but we hope you appreciate that sometimes we need to make the difficult decision to cancel.

If you wish to keep up to date with up-to-the-minute cancellations, the best place for news updates is our Facebook page. We can advise on cancellations and any other conditions which may affect parkrun at any time.

A lot of our extra content is on Facebook too; for example, the photographs which have been collated in this weeks snow-update were taken by the brilliant Matthew CLEGG and Facebook is the place to see the entire set! Go ahead, check them out.

We also had a video posted too, by Craig ELLISON. It's wonderful and shows just how wintery the conditions were - have a peek:

Another mention for Huddersfield parkrun this week in the parkrun UK newsletter. Huddersfield parkrun regular Dawn BYRAM wrote:

Hi parkrun
I have completed 33 parkruns, mainly at Huddersfield parkrun and love it, so every week I would mention to Wayne my son who has suffered from depression for years and stays indoors a lot, about how much fun parkrun was. Two weeks ago I persuaded him to come along with me. Wayne is 26 and was really nervous as he dislikes crowds but he got to the starting line and I ran with him for the first time and he really enjoyed it. He finished in 27:36 so bearing in mind that he has never exercised or ran before I think he did really well. He was really pleased. This past weekend he went for his second parkrun, finished in just over 26 minutes and was over the moon. I’m proud of him.
The volunteers at Huddersfield parkrun are fantastic, Wayne said they were all clapping him and saying keep going so he said he would definitely do it again thanks to this. parkrun has done wonders for Wayne’s self-esteem and confidence. I want to say the volunteers and runners at Huddersfield are amazing. Kerry Noble and Chris Smith have done a fantastic job at Huddersfield parkrun as have all the enthusiastic volunteers.
Regards,
Dawn Byram

Wow. Thank you Dawn for the kind words and we'd like to pass on our love to Wayne. It's been such a joy seeing him fit into our parkrun so well and we are glad that he has found our volunteers encouraging. We're also proud of Waynes achievements and seeing his times fall and we'll keep clapping and cheering for as long as Wayne wants to keep running at Huddersfield parkrun! Hope to see you both back soon!

Also this week, Kerry "The Boss" NOBLE, our incredible Event Director was interviewed for The parkrun Show by Danny NORMAN. Find out what she has to say about AKoA, Event Directing and getting Danny to wear the coveted whiter-than-white Bunny Pants by checking out the show.

If you've got something to say about your parkrun experience at Huddersfield, you can drop us a line via twitter, Facebook or email - we DO see everything you write and we love to hear from you.

volunteers
Snow not only means less runners, it also means we have a teeny tiny volunteer team. The best things come in small packages though and everyone was super-awesome! They were:

Alice BROWN • Craig ELLISON • Julie SIMPSON • Mark NICHOLSON • Simon BRASS • Samantha DAVIES • Matthew CLEGG

A special thank you this week must go to Tony Coletta too, for opening the café and giving us access to hot coffee, hot chocolate and hot sandwiches - I'm sure that was appreciated by everyone and you are All Kinds of Awesome!

Want to be part of the volunteer team? Simply drop us a line and you can be! We'd love for you to try something new, so let us know when you email what you'd like to do.
