Jubilee’s Jubilee Event! Jubilee Junior parkrun #188

At Jubilee Park, the Jubilee Juniors celebrated the Platinum Jubilee. We even managed to make BBC news with the celebrations.

As well as the Jubilee we celebrated some excellent milestones by the children. William earned his half marathon wristband. Henrique, who was first runner back, earned his 100 wristband. Five first timers took on the event all doing very well.Jjpr wb

The horrid conditions meant no PBs were achieved but some juniors got remarkably close. If it was less rainy and windy I think we would have seen a few more, so keep putting in the effort!

The effort of the volunteers was remarkable. They started by moving a tree which was blocking the route, which isn't normally part of the pre event setup role. This is just one example of volunteers going that extra mile. In addition they setup the whole course and marshalled for the whole event, despite undesirable conditions. The 34 volunteers were amazing. One amazing volunteers reached his 25th volunteer credit; Henrik Stoner.

Elysia was first back for the girls and got to squeeze the 'Debut Duck'. Little things like the 'Debut Duck' and the 'PB Pig' really add to the community at Jubilee. It's a great parkrun and I loved trying out somewhere new.

If you want to volunteer like the amazing Hi-Viz Heroes from this week please email jubileejuniors@parkrun.com and mention which role you would like to do. Hopefully I can visit again before I turn 15 to try and beat my time to squeeze the PB Pig!

Jubilee junior parkrun #127 – the one with the mud

Today at Jubilee juniors it was our 127th run and we had 53 children running on this muddy and windy morning.

We had 5 first timers and tourists from Leamington. Welcome!

warmupWhen you've done a certain number of runs you get a wristband and today Ryan got his half marathon wristband and Alex got his marathon wristband.

Next time I'm getting my Ultra Marathon wristband.  Also the half marathon band is for 11 runs, marathon is 21 and the biggest band you can get is the Ultra marathon and that is 50 runs.

The first boy we had today to finish was Alasdair at 8:02 and the first girl was Freya at 8:34. Well done!! We all found it very tricky to run in the wind and a couple of children slipped over and got very muddy - but they were OK!

There is a cafe in the park and they sell bacon and sausage rolls so it's good we have them in this cold weather and they just started to do vegan rolls as well. Remember when you come next to get a roll of your choice to help the park.

Thank you to the volunteers who make this event happen.

oops2Remember that there is no Jubilee junior parkrun next Sunday because there is another run going on at the park. So see you the week after.

Jubilee juniors cancelled on Sunday 16 February

Due to the worsening weather conditions, we have taken the decision to cancel this Sunday's junior parkrun. We hope to see you back again next weekend!

Jubilee juniors parkrun #124 – the one with the sunshine

Jubilee Park was bathed in glorious sunshine for Jubilee juniors parkrun #124. It was very cold with frost all over the pitches, but it was dry and the mud was starting to disappear. We had 74 junior athletes complete the course and with the sun shining everyone was in great spirits. Congratulations to Ava and Alasdair for collecting their Half Marathon and Marathon wristbands – well done also to Alasdair for finishing in first place. With the ground starting to firm up we also saw 11 PBs, so the pig was working overtime. A big welcome to the 5 first timers and our visitor from Riverside juniors whose course is still underwater! Thanks to the park for letting us use the facilities and for the hot drinks and bacon rolls afterwards.

Huge thanks to our 28 hi-viz heroes who volunteered to ensure the event was safe. If you have never volunteered, why not give it a go. None of the roles are difficult and we will make sure you are fully trained and briefed to make sure you are happy.

Jubilee juniors has been going for nearly 3 years and the core team who make it happen every week are still the same team who set it up. Some with new commitments are looking to step down so we are on the look out for anyone who would like to join in and make the parkrun magic happen. Please come and chat to us any Sunday or let us know your interest via email and we would love to discuss things further with you.

See you all next week for Jubilee juniors #125

Jubilee juniors parkrun No. 121 – The one where there was still quite a lot of mud

Today at Jubilee juniors parkrun we still had a lot of the usual, Mud! The park is still recovering from the large amount of rain we had this month but the mud that constantly covers the park (and the café floor) is slowly subsiding. This run was also the last run of the year and the run when Annabelle was awarded her Ultra Marathon wristband for doing her 50th junior parkrun! We had slightly less runners this week, 34, but still welcomed 2 first timers and visitors from Catford and Irchester - we hope you enjoyed Jubilee Juniors and look forward to seeing you back again soon.

Remember that we rely on our fantastic volunteers to make parkrun possible, so if you know that you’re coming along to support a junior athlete, why not put yourself on the volunteers board to help us out?

Remember your barcodes and we will see you next decade!
