A nice opportunity to wish one of our visiting park runners a happy birthday reminded me that it is almost Keswick parkrun's birthday. Next week, we celebrate five years of park running at Keswick.
In fact, the magic began five years ago today, as twenty something runners set off on our test event. Phil Winskill can be seen here as the event's first ever finish token volunteer. I can't seem to remember if we put Phil in that same volunteer role again, or not...
It was not clear where the fun and games of that day would lead, but I think there is a big community of people who would now agree what a great journey it's been. Thanks for all your help along the way, and well done for the 180,000km of running we have since done together!
Carl Bell was back in business today, running 16:43 as first finisher. Our butter fingered former token volunteer Phil Winskill reminded us what he does best, with second place in 18:14, with Keswick AC allowing the third spot to go to Cumberland Fell Runner's Sam Holding in 18:21. Well done!
Abigail Mason was first female in 22:10, followed by Jessica Mason, with a new PB of 22:29, and Collette Whitfield of Heaton Harriers in 23:00, running at Keswick for her first time. Well done, all, and I hope you enjoyed it.
I often post a picture of each gender's first finisher but this young athlete caught my eye today. I couldn't track the name down, as it looks like he ran without a barcode, but what a great run, and a great finish, so I hope we see plenty more of your running!
Lastly, a big thank you to today's volunteer team, and a big thank you to everyone who has made Keswick parkrun possible over the last five years, and 252 events. Next week will be our official birthday, but I thought I would mention it today, because the test event was where it all happened for the very first time. Happy days, in a parkrun sense, at least!
This week 177 people ran, jogged and walked the course, of whom 43 were first timers and 23 recorded new Personal Bests. Representatives of 38 different clubs took part.
