Many thanks to the Saxby family for stepping up again to ensure that Keswick parkrun took place nice and smoothly. It was great to see another big, festive attendance. In fact, 362 runners is our second biggest attendance, and our biggest Saturday attendance ever - the record being held by our New Year's Day run this year. I have always said that I don't care how many people come to join us at parkrun, as long as they enjoy the experience, but it's also really satisfying to see the run continuing to grow in popularity.
I spent some time over the last few days sending off paper work to ensure that we can move quickly to a three lap Fitz Park route, as and when we lose access to the usual route. I will delay things as long as possible so that we can continue to enjoy the route as long as possible, and as soon as I get word that work is re-starting, I'll press the button. Watch this space, but the aim is to keep continuity, with a run each Saturday. I have chosen Fitz Park - there actually aren't many viable traffic free options, in order to continue our support of Café West, in recognition of their support for us. I hope you understand, especially if a flat three-lapper is not your favourite sort of run!
Anyway, despite the big attendance, none of our visitors outran our own Mark Lamb, who finished in a speedy 16:32, followed by Tom Humphries of Eden Runners in 17:17, and Alex Cruttenden of Brighton Phoenix in 17:32. Well done all, and I hope the long journey North from Brighton was worth it, Alex? We think it's an awesome parkrun!
Lizzie Pawson of Seaton AC was first female in 20:21, with Katherine West in 20:31, and Hayley Read in 20:50 getting a PB. Well done ladies!
A big thank you to all of our volunteers of course - don't forget, they're all runners who happen to want to help out that week, so don't be afraid to step up and join the team. you'll find it rewarding, and you only have to email email@example.com and I'll get you organised.
This week 362 people ran, jogged and walked the course, of whom 145 were first timers and 46 recorded new Personal Bests. Representatives of 67 different clubs took part.
