Christmas and New Year’s Day – no additional Laleham juniors events

Now that we are heading towards December, we wanted to let you know in advance that the core team have agreed not to stage additional Christmas Day or New Year's Day junior parkrun events at Laleham this year.  This is mainly due to the core team running/volunteering at 5k events elsewhere.

Please do take a look at the Christmas Compendium to see which events are running!

Best wishes

Event #53 Run Report – 13 August 2017

Happy Birthday to us
Happy Birthday to us
Happy Birthday dear Laleham
Happy Birthday to us!!

DSC-0196The past year has seen a very wonderful thing: the start, growth and flourishing of Laleham junior parkrun! One year ago 40 junior parkrunners lined up at Laleham and ran, jogged and walked their way round a 2 lap perimeter that would soon become familiar to many. Over the next 12 months they've run and run. They've run through sun, wind, rain and fog. They've run for a time and they've run for a chat. They've run in ever increasing numbers. They've also volunteered. DSC_0050
As they've run, they've done something incredible. Along with the adults who run with them or cheer them on from the sidelines as volunteers or Spectators, they've built a community that is exactly what parkrun is about. There's a spirit of joy and enjoyment about Laleham that fills me with pride that I've been part of it. Thank you so much to the rest of the core team RDs (Claire, Kelly, Karen S, Karen H, Neil) for their support in creating a true "run for fun" ethos and supporting everyone who comes along in all weathers!  Not forgetting a huge "thank you" to all our volunteers who come along to help each week, including some special guest volunteers who came to help us celebrate with our record-breaking 92 runners this week.

DSC_0045Nothing sums up Laleham parkrun for me more than the scene as the final parkrunner comes home each week to support from other runners, parents and volunteers lined up either side of the funnel to cheer them home. No matter what their age, pace, finishing position (or attraction of cake!), it was important to them to ensure they were welcomed in. DSC-0203

So it's been a great year for Laleham junior parkrun - and boy did we celebrate in style! There was a magnificent cake, loads of other treats (including the amazing Brown Bag crisps kindly donated by Brown Bag crisps themselve - thank you so much!), juice, water and even some fruit!
It was wonderful to see how many people lingered for ages after the event finished - eating, drinking, chatting and celebrating. We had some fun games of rounders, capture the flag and some parents vs children relay races! If I'm honest, I didn't want the morning to end it was that much fun...

Thank you so much to everyone who has made this event what it is, and here's to the next twelve months.
