The National Trust Coastal Challenge Series

For those interested in a coastal challenge this summer, here's an event from the National Trust with Bodmin Road Runners....

The National Trust Coastal Challenge series is back for 2016! Five guided trail runs on (hopefully!) sunny evenings between May and September, led by experienced leaders finishing with a BBQ on the beach or a pint in a beer garden.

The challenge, if you choose to accept it is twofold. Firstly, to come along to all of them and take on the trails overlooking the Celtic Sea. We’ll lay down the gauntlet that you’ll struggle to find a better set of running routes in North Cornwall, if not the World!

Secondly, we love this section of coastline, but as with a lot of the coast path it takes a lot of time and money to keep it looking as good as it does. As a charity it costs the National Trust an average of £3000 per mile of coast path to maintain it in good condition each year.

See the poster below for further details and get in touch with us to find out more: 01208 863046 or email northcornwall@nationaltrust.org.uk

Happy 2nd Birthday Lanhydrock parkrun!

Happy Birthday to us! - - Saturday 16 January 2016

Yes it's really been two years of running up that erm... how do I put it.... hill.  And we're still loving it.  Let's celebrate two years of Lanhydrock parkrun with balloons, fancy dress and cake - please bring some along to share if you can!

It's also time to thank all our volunteers.  Hopefully we've all done are share of volunteering this year.  parkrun really wouldn't be able to go ahead without you guys stepping forward and doing those roles of time keeping, barcode scanning, marshalling....  THANK YOU!  See you on Saturday for the celebrations!

National Trust Lanhydrock Park Fence Fun Run

Just for fun and fundraising...

A 3 mile(ish) fun run following Lanhydrock's park fence - just so you can see how much it needs repairing and replacing.

Sunday 10 January 2016, 11am, so everyone can kick start their new year and get those New Year's Resolutions underway. The run is open to anyone 13 years and over and running with a dog is welcome. Prizes very kindly donated by Simply Cornish and Cornish Orchards. £6 on the day entry. Money raised from the event goes towards the Lanhydrock park fence fund, so we can repair and replace the many broken sections. The old park fence is made from treated softwood, but we are replacing with untreated sweet chestnut and oak - much of it from trees from the estate and then cut at the local saw mill bordering the estate. The hardwood fence soon becomes a habitat of it's own, developing a coating of beautiful lichens.

Tickets for the National Trust Christmas Raffle will also be available to buy, with a top prize of £10,000! Tickets cost £1 each and the money raised from tickets sold at Lanhydrock goes toward the park fence fund. Hope you can make it!

Don't fancy running? Volunteers to help out on the day are always welcome, please contact alice.barker@nationaltrust.org.uk, 07827 271 417.
