The parkrun addiction

My friends find me a little strange/ obsessed/ sad because of my evangelistic view of this Sat morning past time - if someone had said to me years ago that you'd be getting up early to join hundreds of others to run round a 5Km course and sometimes driving all over the country to do the same thing I'd have thought they were barking mad - but here we all are.
Last week after a 25mile hike on the Friday I introduced my friend to Keswick parkrun- a flat course - running on blisters was not fun but he finally understood what this was all about and he and his family did their first parkruns together today!
It's lovely to visit different parkruns but it's always great to come back to your own. We have something quite special in Leamington, visitors from all over today all mentioned the lovely warm atmosphere, before during and after the event. We're always looking for things to do (that parkrun HQ allow us to do), there's a community notice board in the pavilion if you want to put something up and our FB page takes visitor posts if you want to post something relevant to our running community.
Additional donated funds in the future will go to a charity of the core team choice and for August - Kate's choice is Air Ambulance
September - Tess has chosen - Warwickshire Search & Rescue

Many of you didn't know that Saty was conducting her first solo mission as Run Director today. It's very nerve wracking when you're the boss and there are 4/500 of you. Remember Saty was doing things for this event starting last Monday and every day since to help make this event run. She made it look way too smooth and kept on smiling all the way through. Well done Saty the 'L' plate has been chucked away!

Just so you know the core team at Leamington is made up of :
Kevin Baskerville (Event Director)
Susie Tawney (Run Director)
Ben Philips (Run Director)
Helen Braithwaite (Run Director)
Jonathan Grant (Run Director)
Saty Kandola (Run Director)
David Chantrey (Run Director)

A couple of notices - from Aug 26th please only park at the furthest car park or the Radford Rd car park. The leisure centre re-opens on the 26th and parking by the golf club will be reserved for the golf course and the leisure centre. Warwick District Council have been very good to us and have kindly asked me to ask you if you respect this request. Can you car share, cycle, even jog over to parkrun?

Just in case you don't know - take your barcode on a Saturday morning to Costa Coffee (only on the Parade) and you'll get 25% off drinks and food!

An appeal PLEASE can we get our bibs back 10th, 50th, 100th etc - we're nice but we're not giving them to you as a pressie! Can we have a bib amnesty next week and bring the bibs back - no questions asked!,(especially if they come back washed).

Once again we were very thankful for all of the wonderful volunteers for today's event. We simply couldn't do it without you guys - PLEASE look ahead on the roster page and ask yourself, "When can I help out?" Please let us know - we only ask for 3 volunteer sessions per year per runner - surely that's possible? Email us with your availability and barcode - Jon will be grateful next week and I will be the week after.

Remember your barcode PLEASE - we're trying to be consistent with the rest of parkrun #NBNR No Barcode No Result. See you next week. Here's the stats....
Have a great week - Kevin x
