Lee-on-the-Solent parkrun news update & run report

We start off with a run report from the GRR takeover, written by Joanna Yorke

Well it was certainly a wet and blustery morning for our very special leap year and 250th park run event, we had tourists from Southampton, Fareham, Sunderland and Winchester. There were 26 first timers today.  Sophie judge was running her 50th park run on her 50th birthday along with Cathy Webb who ran her 150th park run. Today's run saw the Gosport Road Runners take over with a truly amazing show of yellow. Well done to all the high viz heroes who stood in the cold, wet and hailstones to cheer everyone on and keep everyone safe. What a great job. In total an amazing  468 runners and walkers finished the course today. Well done to everyone. There were even a few superheroes in the crowd too including superwoman aka Lucy May from Stubbington Green Runners. Stubbington Medical Practice also joined in the event along with Lee-on-the-Solent 5k Your Way, Move Against Cancer group.

First Male today was Rob Morgan in 19.03

First female was Lucy may.aka superwoman  in 22.13
Amazing times in a difficult run. Well done to everyone .A very welcome slice of cake was available at the end of the run.
Thank you to everyone who contributed towards the cake table, also to Julie who manned it so well. Once again a huge thank you to Honor Reader Run Director today and all the volunteers who make this happen every week .Oh, and just a reminder that the next time parkrun can be run on a Saturday leap year is 2048. A date for the diary !!!! Let's hope the event is still as popular then as it is today .
Thank you
Jo
In other news:
This Saturday 7th March, we hope you will join us for a #IWDparkrun at Lee-on-the-Solent parkrun, to celebrate a global female focused event for International Women's Day.
In England this will support the 'This Girl Can' campaign created by our partner Sport England.
We encourage you to bring along a female friend, family member or work colleague, especially one who has never been to parkrun before.
Our chosen colour for the day is purple so please feel free to join us and perhaps have your photo taken with our special parkrun selfie frame #IWDparkrun
The event is inclusive to everyone and we look forward to celebrating the day with you!

Lastly,

Many of you will have heard of LEE VE75,  Lee-on-the-Solent will be hosting the largest celebration in Hampshire to mark the 75th anniversary of VE day, on 8th, 9th and 10th May.

Yesterday, I met with the event organisers and Lee parkrun will be joining in with the celebrations by getting as many people as possible to wear red, white and blue at parkrun on 9th May.  :)  There will also be some road closures in place, but more on that nearer the time.

There is lots of information on the event website, and the organisers are looking for some volunteers, you may also see some leaflets at parkrun in the coming weeks.
