Littleport parkrun no.58

Bitter Sweatt a story of two Rachels’

It’s always sad to loose parkrunners and it’s sad news Rachel Widger and family are off to pastures new across the border in Scotland, we wish you well and hope you have parkrun nearby with the added bonus of a 9.30 start for extra duvet time on a Saturday. Please visit us soon as a tourist.

55 weeks ago Daisy Glover set the Ladies record at Littleport at an impressive 18.06. Rachel Sweatt this week took the Littleport female crown firmly from Daisy with an amazing 17.52 and 4th overall and only 1% off the age grade record too. This was the 8th= fastest parkrun ladies time this week!
Nice work Rachel.

Now onto the run, 180 finished event 58 in temperatures 20 degrees lower than two days before and a lot of wet stuff falling from the sky. We had a small splattering of tourists some new faces and of course the die hard regulars all tackling the greasy but nicely cut and de-brambled drove and wet grass. It was my first stab at the new “waterboard corner” which works remarkably well and has had no complaints from the runners I’m aware of. My time a modest 25:52 shows the course is no slower than before for a plodder like me anyways.

Thank you to Littleport PC and David Murfitt for a clear drove, nice work!

This week also marks 30,000 parkrun Miles covered at Littleport, that’s a long way in a year and a little bit!

I would like to remind runners though to please listen and not talk during the brief it’s disrespectful to the team and others who like to listen.
Also the funnel it’s there as a deceleration zone please don’t slow and stop on the line, I nearly rear ended the runner in front of me as the runner in front of him stopped on the line. Luckily I could go to the side of the guy in front then got told off for not keeping in order by our funnel manager! The
No harm done but this could be nasty if the situation was different.

With the school holiday in full swing the roster is looking grim so please remember to help if you can. We are looking to recruit some extra Run Directors to help spread the workload as most of us are runners too and like to parkrun ourselves. Please message us if you can help?

I would like also to thank the parkrun regular who rang me Saturday offering to buy a megaphone for the brief, we have that covered but thank you sir. You know who you are!

See you all next week.
