Last Sunday saw a visit and mini-takeover of the volunteer roster by some of the core team from the forthcoming Chippenham junior parkrun, giving them some first-hand experience of how things work and how much fun is to be had at junior parkrun! They will be starting in a few weeks' time, giving you one more option for a bit of junior tourism. Thanks for coming, folks, and best of luck with your new baby
Thanks too to the rest of my volunteer team, which, with the Chippenham lot, comprised Louisa AQUILINA, Lynda BENNETT, Simon BENNETT, Yinhe GONE, Nicola JAMES, Lu LANDYMORE, Josephine LILLYWHITE, Christian LILLYWHITE, Karen LILLYWHITE, Jing Qin LIN, Julia MADDOCKS, Andrew MARSHFIELD, Ruth Elinor MEDCROFT, Isobel Grace MEDCROFT, Stuart PRESNELL, Emma SHEPHERD, Liz SWEET, Ben SWEET, Stuart WILKIE, Llifon WILLIAMS, Rhian WITHAM and Winston WITHAM, for filling the roster before the weekend - this is really helpful!
Speaking of which, as I mentioned in my run brief, there will be a few changes in the new year, starting from event 76 on 10 January (the first one after start of the school term):
- We must have a full volunteer roster by noon on Saturday in order to go ahead with the event on Sunday. We will cancel if this is not achieved. Of course, no one wants to see an event cancelled, but we hope it will never come to that. As grateful as we are to those who have volunteered on the day in the past, and as understanding as we are that it is difficult for some to know whether they'll be coming, we have decided to be strict about this (just as we are for the no barcode, no time rule) so that the run director on the day can concentrate on making the event go smoothly, rather than recruiting volunteers and checking if they're registered etc. It will be a massive help if you could opt-in to our volunteer appeal emails, if you haven't already, which you can do on this page (you'll probably need to log in with your parkrun barcode; if you don't have a password yet, read the notes under the login box!).
- The run brief will take place by the start line, which is currently (for the winter course) at the top end of the park by the leisure centre and Aretians rugby club. This will allow us to move swiftly from the important safety messages and announcements, to wristband presentations, to the warm-up and straight on to the run, rather than it being broken up by a mass walk from one end of the park to the other. There will be marshals in the car park to point runners and parents in the right direction when they arrive. Please try and be at the start line for 8:50am so that we can aim to get the run going as close to 9:00am as possible.
Until next time, here are the stats...
