Event Cancellation 4 March 2018

I am afraid that this event is a non-runner. Apparently it is going to be a bit nippy out, so we'll try again on the 11th March.

Best wishes,

David Francetti

Event Director

Christmas & New Year 2016/17

Please note there will be no junior parkrun events on Christmas Day or New Years Day at Little Stoke, as the park will be closed.

You can see which events are running on these days on the parkrun Christmas Compendium page.

EVENT CANCELLATIONS 31 July and 14 August

Unfortunately, there will be no Little Stoke junior parkrun this Sunday, 31 July, because none of our Run Directors are available. This is unfortunate and has never happened before, but we will be taking steps to reduce the chance of it happening again.

Also, two weeks later on 14 August, we will again be cancelled because of the annual dog show in the park.

Event cancelled AGAIN tomorrow, 12 June 2016

I am so sorry to do this at such short notice AGAIN, but tomorrow's run is cancelled.

This time, it's through no fault of our own, and we even have enough volunteers, but Stoke Gifford Parish Council neglected to mention to us that there is a football tournament monopolising the park this weekend. (They also didn't tell us about the Fake Festival or the funfair in May; we had to ask them about those events after spotting posters ourselves)

I just happened to pop by the park to do a lap after visiting Chipping Sodbury parkrun this morning, to find every pitch in use, a huge inflatable slide, barbecue and Vauxhall stand in the middle of the park, as well as cars parked all the way up the grass alongside the cycle path (the access for which crosses the footpath). I asked the groundsman, who confirmed it will be the same tomorrow, so there is no way we can safely put on a junior parkrun.

Once again, I am so sorry to have to cancel again, and I would like to thank all the volunteers who have put their names down, including Mel who, as this week's Run Director, has spent a lot of time and effort this week drumming up support, answering emails and updating the roster in readiness. It is so incredibly frustrating to have all this effort go to waste.

As usual, I will point out our neighbouring junior events at Kings Weston junior parkrun (10am start) and Windmill Hill junior parkrun (9am start) as alternatives. In particular, I notice Kings Weston juniors are still short of volunteers, so I'm sure they would appreciate your help if you can offer it.

Whatever you do, I hope you enjoy the rest of your weekend and I hope to see you back at Little Stoke next Sunday.

Ian Shepherd
Event Director

Event cancellation 15 May 2016

There will be no junior parkrun at Little Stoke on Sunday 15 May, due to the removal of the stage for the previous day's Fake Festival in the park.

Fortunately, there are alternative junior parkruns nearby in the form of Windmill Hill junior parkrun at 9:00am Kings Weston junior parkrun at 10:00am (though please note parkrun will not allow you to record more than one run on the same day, so please don't try to race across town to do both!)

Run report 74 – 27 December 2015

I cannot tell you how pleased I was to have a full volunteer roster early in the week.  That made for a much more relaxed Christmas.  So, thanks to all the hi-viz heroes this week:

Yusuf AHMED, Louisa AQUILINA, Richard AQUILINA, Michelle EDGELL, Clare JUBB, Karen LILLYWHITE, Christian LILLYWHITE, Jerry LIU, Peter LOMAX, Jess LOMAX, John NOWLAND, Janice PEARSON, Stuart PRESNELL, Jo TAYLOR, Evie TAYLOR, Peter WANG, Stuart WILKIE, Llifon WILLIAMS, Winston WITHAM, Rhian WITHAM

The weather did its best to stop us, but we managed to muster 26 brave and cheery souls to join us for a 2k in the park with friends.  Unbelievably, we had a couple of tourists - from Nottingham and London, one of whom, I think, was doing their first ever parkrun.  We had another first timer, too.  I hope that the weather didn’t put you off, and you still feel like joining us again soon.

Despite the weather, 5 of our runners managed to record a new PB.  Well done to all of you.  I gave out wristbands to Caitlin WITHAM, who celebrated her 50th junior parkrun last week, joining the ultra marathon club, and Charlie SIBLEY, who celebrated number 11 last week, joining the half marathon club.  Well done to both of you.  There was one new member of a parkrun club this week, as Oliver LEARY completed his 21st event, earning his half-marathon wristband.

Here are the stats:

Male placings:

Murray PEARSON (JM10) (Unattached) was first (second overall) over the line in 09:15 - first time in 8 appearances.

Sebastian AQUILINA (JM10) (Unattached) was second (third overall) over the line in 09:16.

Henry AYSHFORD (JM11-14) (Unattached) was third (4th overall) over the line in 09:44.

Female placings:

Harriet LAMBE (JW11-14) of Frampton Cotterell Harriers, was first (first overall) over the line in 07:47 - 33rd time in 33 appearances.

Megan WITHAM (JW11-14) (Unattached) was second (5th overall) over the line in 09:51 - has been first to finish on 4 previous occasions.

Caitlin WITHAM (JW10) (Unattached) was third (6th overall) over the line in 09:57.

The following runners recorded the best Age Grade scores:

Harriet LAMBE (JW11-14) was graded 73.09% for the time 07:47 (first overall).

Sebastian AQUILINA (JM10) was graded 70.26% for the time 09:16 (third overall).

Murray PEARSON (JM10) was graded 67.33% for the time 09:15 (second overall).

This week there were 26 runners, of whom 3 were first timers and 5 recorded new Personal Bests. Representatives of 2 different athletics clubs took part.

Little Stoke Junior parkrun started on 29th June 2014, and since then 1,049 different runners, including participants from 26 athletics clubs, have completed 5,908 runs covering a total distance of 11,816 km, and there have been 1,336 new Personal Bests.

The female record is held by Harriet LAMBE who ran in a time of 00:07:12 on 2015-06-07 (event number 47).

The male record is held by Luke DAVIES who ran in a time of 00:06:23 on 2014-09-28 (event number 13).

The Age Grade course record is held by Luke DAVIES who recorded a 83.14% run (06:23) on 28th September 2014 (event number 13).

Today's full results and a complete event history can be found on the Little Stoke Junior parkrun Results Page.

Christmas & New Year 2015/16

Just a quick note to say there will be no extra Little Stoke junior parkrun events on either Christmas Day or New Year's Day.

Our first birthday!

I can hardly believe it, but next week, Sunday 28th, will be our first birthday! :D

To celebrate, as well as having our usual run in the park with friends and all the fun that entails, let's have a "bring and share" picnic! Being a free event, and with no funds in the donations pot*, we can't throw a big party for you, I'm afraid, but if we all bring a little bit of picnic/party food for everyone to share, we should have quite a spread :) If you bring your own cup and plate too, please, that will save the expense and waste of using disposables.

I'll try to bring enough juice and water for everyone (but remember to bring your own cup!), if you could bring some tasty treats! So, things like little cakes and biscuits, sandwiches, crisps, grapes, carrot sticks etc would be ideal (best keep it all vegetarian to be on the safe side!) And if there are any great cake makers out there who would like to donate a Little Stoke juniors birthday cake, that would be amazing! ;)

If you could drop us an email as early as possible to let us know what you would like to bring, that would be really helpful; then we can try to avoid everyone bringing the same thing. An email to littlestoke-juniorsoffice@parkrun.com with the subject 'Party food' will be great. Thanks!

*The donations pot, by the way, is buried on our website at the bottom of the "About us" page at http://www.parkrun.org.uk/littlestoke-juniors/aboutus/ - we've never shouted about it because we don't want to imply any obligation at all. If, however, you do decide at any point to make a donation, 85% of the money will be available to us at Little Stoke juniors to use for all the little expenses like replacement batteries for the stopwatches to extra equipment we may want to get in the future, such as a gazebo for rainy days or a megaphone for run briefings. The other 15% goes into a pot at parkrun HQ to help set up new parkrun events. Details of all money in and out is available online for all to see - as you can see, we've never had any! ;)

EVENT CANCELLATIONS 14 June and 9 August 2015

There will be no junior parkrun at Little Stoke on the following dates:

14 June 2015 - a football tournament in the park will be very busy with activities all weekend

9 August 2015 - a dog show in the park all weekend will involve lots of dogs crossing the course from the car parks to the field and back

In both cases, it's best if we keep out of the way! You could visit Newport juniors at 10am or even the brand new Swindon juniors at 9am. Who knows, we may have an even closer alternative before too long! ;)

Sorry, folks, but there will be no junior parkrun at Little Stoke on Sunday 3 May, due to a festival in the park. Although that's taking place on the Saturday, they'll be dismantling the stage and clearing up on Sunday morning, so we would certainly be in the way of each other and unable to ensure a safe run.

If you feel like a bit of a trip, you could pop over the bridge to Newport junior parkrun instead - they don't start till 10am, so you wouldn't even have to get up any earlier :)
