Run report – Little Stoke parkrun event 170

Little Stoke parkrun 9 April 2016

013What a lovely parkrun we had on Saturday morning at Little Stoke park – there was a fantastic happy atmosphere tinged with a little sadness with the future of Little Stoke parkrun being decided by at the Parish Council meeting on Tuesday. The sun was shining and there was even a tiny bit of warmth in the sun at 9am! 024

Thanks to the great team of volunteers, without volunteers parkrun wouldn’t happen. It was also lovely that Meryl Grimshaw (Event Director at Pomphrey Hill and one of the parkrun ambassadors for the local area) and Brian Gardener (from South Glos Council who have supported the setup of Little Stoke, Pomphrey Hill and Chipping Sodbury parkruns) both volunteered to show their support. 019Well done to Waseem Ahmed on his 50th parkrun (and thanks for the lovely cake). 031

I would like to reiterate (what I said on Saturday) and thank the following for the huge amount of time and effort that they have all spent over the last 8 month dealing with the Council situation -

Geoff Keogh (parkrun ambassador for the area and Event Director at Ashton Court) and

Martin Dunne, Clare Jubb and Becky Bushnell (from Little Stoke parkrun core volunteer team).

I know that I speak on behalf of all Little Stoke parkrunners – THANKYOU

Andy Griffin

Results and stats are below but I think Saturday was all about the great community spirit that Little Stoke parkrun has.

A Spring In Our Step – Run Report for Little Stoke parkrun #169 – 2nd April 2016

Well, Spring certainly seems to have arrived for many of you!

We welcomed 260 runners to the park on Saturday with 45 first timers, including a "Couch to 5k" group from Airbus - we hope you all really enjoyed your run.

Having woken early on Saturday morning to find it raining, my memories were immediately flooding back to early February when we had to cancel the event due to.... er,flooding! Those fears were short-lived, however, as the rain disappeared and our band of happy and enthusiastic volunteers convened, bright-eyed and bushy-tailed, to set up the course.

This weeks Hi Viz masters and mistresses of magic were:

Clare JUBB  •  Dave GUEST  •  Deborah REDMOND  •  Derek DA SILVA  •  Donna ABBOTT  •  John BLAKE  •  Liz COLE  •  Maciej BIALOGONSKI  •  Malcolm ROBERTS  •  Martin DUNNE  •  Moray SLOAN  •  Rebecca BROWN  •  Rosamund MOGG  •  Sue MYERS  •  Tony MYERS

A very sincere thank you to everyone involved for your wonderful help in making it all happen.

Beyond the 45 runners taking part at Little Stoke for the first time, we had a whopping 53 personal bests (that's roughly 1 in 4 of people who weren't running here for the first time!), some of whom were very ably assisted by our two pacers on the day - many thanks Dom and Pete!

Congratulations too to Dan Heelis-Adams and Serena Griffiths, who each notched up their 50th parkrun - this also meant that there were some flapjacks and brownies doing the rounds - thank you!!

A quick reminder that the Baptist Church will be available again for parking for this coming Saturday until further notice. Please continue to make use of this as it really does help to ease the load on the main car park and the neighbouring roads.

We look forward to seeing you all in the park again soon!

Dave Guest - Run Director (Little Stoke parkrun)

Little Stoke parkrun Event number 168 – 26th March 2016

Though we weren't lucky enough to get a repeat of Friday's lovely weather on Saturday, it was good to see that the wind and rain we got instead couldn't put a dampener on things - 17 of you turned up bright and early to volunteer, and another 210 took part in the running around of the park, with 40 runners this week achieving PBs - well done.

We had 10 first-timers this week who were taking part in their first ever event, and a further 26 visitors from other parkruns in Bristol and South Glos, and even further afield, who were also running at Little Stoke for the first time - a very warm welcome to you all. We hope you enjoyed your visit to Little Stoke and look forward to seeing you again in the park in the future.

Thanks also, of course,  to this week's volunteers, who all did a great job of making sure event 168 went off went without a hitch. In particular, thanks to juniors Rachel and Joseph Scriven who were brilliant on barcode scanning duties and made sure I got all 210 finishing tokens back at the end.

Next week, please remember that there will be no parking at the Baptist Church on Kingsway - please park sensibly elsewhere, or better yet - walk, cycle or run if you can. But whatever you do, don't forget your barcode!

See you Saturday.

parkrunners Have A Spring In Their Step

Run Report for Little Stoke parkrun #166, 12/3/2016
Becky Bushnell, Run Director

It feels like there is definitely a change in the seasons afoot and it was fantastic to have such a bright, sunny Spring day. Now I'm not saying winter is over by any stretch as there was still a definite nip in the air when the volunteers started arriving ready to get everything set up for the event. Huge thanks to all those who volunteered this week and gave me a  top team to help put on Little Stoke parkrun event number one hundred and sixty six:

Bob TURNER  •  Doreen PAINE  •  Edward TAYLOR  •  Elaine GRAHAM  •  Howard JAMESON  •  Jaya BROOKS  •  John HOCKING  •  Laura SEARS  •  Miia BENNETT  •  Rachel BRAMWELL  •  Robert COLMAN  •  Ron PAINE  •  Rosamund MOGG  •  Steven GRANT  •  Stuart PRESNELL

Even though the sun was most definitely out we are still using the winter course as the ground used for the grass lap in summer is still very soft. Hopefully a few more weeks of dry weather and sunshine will mean we can move onto the summer course sometime soon but you never quite know what the weather will bring! We will check each week and we await the thumbs up from the groundsmen but it feels like Spring might just have sprung.

P1020516

There was a great atmosphere in the park today and a total of 256 participants crossed the finish line. We were very please to welcome a group from the Bristol City Council couch to 5K program who came to Little Stoke for their graduation run. Congratulations to all of you, we hope you enjoyed your parkrun with us and we'll see you in the park again soon.
DSC_0718

There was also a milestone parkrun for Kevin Cundy who has notched up his 50th parkrun (an impressive 47 of which were at Little Stoke!) to join the 50 club.

Did you know that if you volunteer 25 times there is a t-shirt in recognition of that provided by the parkrun sponsor Tribesports? If you would like to be part of the team one Saturday then please contact us on LittleStokeHelpers@parkrun.com or get in touch through our Facebook or Twitter pages.

Well I think that's about it for now. Time to go out and enjoy the sunshine! For all you stats fans, they follow below.
Til next Saturday, have a great week!

Little Stoke parkrun 20 February 2016

Little Stoke parkrun 20 February 2016

As a Run Director I find that during the week leading up to the Saturday I check the weather about 3 times a day. This week was no different and it didn’t look promising. However even though we had had overnight rain between 8am and 10 am it was dry which was a pleasant surprise especially after the last couple of very wet Saturday mornings.

We had 257 runners with some parkrun tourists from Huntingdon and Cumbria who were staying in the local area and wanted to show their support to keep Little Stoke parkrun at Little Stoke Park. We had 29 new runners to Little Stoke with 9 runners doing their first ever parkrun.

Congratulations to

Junior – Robert Kiekuth on completing his 10th run

Abi Palmer, Chris Tongue, Dave Horne, Trudy Clark who all completed their 50th parkrun and Sylvia Crump who completed her 100th parkrun.

Well done to you all.

Finally thanks to all our volunteers this week. Parkrun can’t happen without volunteers and it certainly helps the Run Directors to have a complete roster well in advance.

Run Report for Event #161 – Saturday 30 January 2016

We welcomed 28 first timers to Little Stoke and also the ITV cameras!  You may have seen yourselves on the ITV West Country News the same day at 6pm.  Further information on the story can be found on the News section of our website.

We congratulated three milestones; David Francetti on his 100th and his son Craig on his 10th (thank you for bringing cakes, something we are getting regularly used to at the moment).  Ben Lloyd also completed his 10th run – well done to you all.

Can I remind you all about parking in the Baptist Church car park in Kingsway, a very short walk from the Park.  As we increase in numbers the main car park fills up quite quickly, so please make use of the one at the Church.

A big thank you to all the volunteers, the event would not take place without them.

Run Report for Event #160 – 23 Jan 16

It was great to see so many of you in the park this morning and to be able to explain to you in person  the difficulties we have been experiencing with our usage of the park. If anybody missed our announcement this morning or yesterday's news article you can find it here. We have been overwhelmed by the support and positivity we have seen in just the last 24 hours. Please keep it coming, especially if you live in the BS32/34 area as your voices will have the most impact.

Today we had a lot to celebrate with 315 runners in the park and a number of milestones to enjoy.  Andy Filby joined the 100 club and Carl Fivey, Dan Schofield, Adrian Schofield and Alan Graves the 50 club. The January surge of runners has continued which is fantastic to see but does put pressure on our parking arrangements. Thanks to everyone for listening to our car park marshals and helping us to ensure that we let other park users have a share of the spaces available.  Don't forget we have use of the Baptist Church car park, details of which you can find here.

A huge vote of thanks goes to this weeks volunteer team:
