Christmas 2016 at Longrun Meadow junior parkrun

The team have decided that as most children will be opening their presents on Christmas morning, there will be no junior parkrun at Longrun Meadow.  However, there will be a 5k parkrun taking place at the usual time of 9am so if you are feeling like a bit of Christmas parkrun love on the day, come on down and celebrate with the adult team and their second 5k event of the weekend.

We will be back as usual on New Year's Day.

The junior parkrun core team would like thank all the fabulous volunteers and wish everyone a very Happy Christmas!!!!

Longrun Meadow junior parkrun – Event No. 12 – Sunday 9 August

110 young people turned up in the lovely sunshine for our 12th event this weekend.  We had representatives of 7 different primary schools including West Monkton, Staplegrove, Norton Fitzwarren, North Town, Cheddon Fitzpaine, Blackbrook and Bishop Henderson as well as 4 running clubs.  Welcome to the youngster from the beautifully named Shiny Happy Runners who was one of 20 first-timers.  There were 15 pbs recorded and perhaps the most significant was that of Finton WYATT who has just completed his 11th run along with Isabelle PRIDDLE.  I can't wait to present them both with their 'half-marathon' wristbands next week!!  Seven others will shortly be following in their footsteps including Mia DOHERTY, Harri GOODMAN, Leah GOODMAN, Abbie HAINES, Callum McDONALD, Ruby HAINES and Thomas STONE who have all completed 10 runs so far.

First past the finishing post was Sam PONTER in 7 minutes 36 seconds closely followed by Harrison FREEMAN (7:43) and Autumn MILLARD (7:51).  For the fourth time, Mia DOHERTY crossed the line first for the girls and was in fifth place overall with a time of 8:30.  Watch out boys - she's hot on your heels!  Tabitha LORENZ came in shortly after (9:07) and Robyn LAING with a time of 9 minutes and 17 seconds.

A massive good luck to the guys from Exeter (Heavitree) junior parkrun who have their practice event next week and their inaugural the week after.  Thanks to Owen for helping us out this weekend as well as all our other fabulous volunteers.

It is such a fantastic sight to see the children running through the meadow - I can't think of anything better to see on a Sunday morning.  If you would like to be part of this, please sign up as a volunteer.  It is usually all over by 9:30am but will leave you buzzing all day!!

Longrun Meadow junior parkrun – Event No. 10 – Sunday 26 July

Splish, splash - one very soggy parkrun this morning!!  Nothing like getting up early on a Sunday morning and feeling like a drowned rat!!  Is it all worth it, I ask myself? - you bet it is!  45 young people, various dedicated parents and a large number of fabulous volunteers braved the elements to run and support today's event.

The first of our hardcore runners over the line was Alex Male (7:28) who has run this parkrun six times and lead the field five times.  He was little way ahead of Oliver Halliday (8:51) and Oscar Albano (9:02) in 2nd and 3rd respectively.

Our current ladies record holder, Macey Barrett was doing it for the girls with a time of 8:28 followed by Mia Doherty (9:29) and Trinity Davey (10:44).  Macey has run our event 3 times and has been first each time with a pb of 8:18.

Despite the weather, we had 4 first timers today and 4 new personal bests with 8 clubs taking part.  If you would like your school to be registered with parkrun, please speak to them.  They can e-mail parkrun and get themselves added to the database.

To date, over 3000km have been run at Longrun Meadow junior parkrun and there have been a total of 407 pbs!!!!  We are at the 10th event now and although no-one has run all 10, a few have completed 9 so we will be handing out those 'half marathon' wristbands within a few weeks.  So far Mia Doherty, Matthew Templeton, Finton Wyatt, Isabelle Priddle, Isobel Frowde and Georgia Cox are amongst those on target.  Well done all!!!

As ever, we have to thank the amazing volunteers for their contribution towards making this happen.  It is a highly rewarding experience and if you would like to have a go at any of the roles, please e-mail

Longrun Meadow junior parkrun – Event No. 6 – Sunday 28 June

The soggy weather did not deter 143 young runners this morning including 17 first timers!!  Let's hope the rain didn't stop them from returning for a second go.  For many of the runners it was their 5th or 6th appearance so they are well on their way to receiving their first wrist bands for running a half marathon.  One of those was our first young man across the line, Joe Ponter, who has run the course 5 times now and has lead the field twice with a time today of 7 minutes and 23 seconds.  Coming in around half a minute later were Harrison Freeman (7:53) and Ben Wharton (7:58).  The male record of 6:58 is still held by George Tester at our first event.  Macy Bartlett is our fastest lady so far with 8:18 and was first again today in 8:22.  Mia Doherty and Grace Keen were 2nd and 3rd with times of 9:09 and 9:32 respectively.  So far there have been a total of 271 PBs with 63 of those in today's event and 401 runners in total have covered over 2000km.

We still have a small amount of lost property - guitar necklace, hoodie and water bottle.  Please speak to one of the marshals on the day.

As ever a big thank you to all the volunteers.  We are always very grateful to everyone who helps out and we are always looking for more people to sign up.  There is a variety of roles on offer so if you would like to try something new, please let us know.

E-mail to be added to the roster

Longrun Meadow junior parkrun – Event No. 4 – Sunday 14 June

Another great bunch of happy faces at Longrun Meadow this week and it was a warm one, that's for sure but 173 children ran, jogged, walked their way around the 2k route.  As I was timing this week, I had the chance to see each and every child cross the finish line and it was a pleasure to witness the pure determination and pride of all our lovely young people. First boy in was Tom Heal of Taunton AC who, at his first event, finished in a fantastic time of 7 minutes and 40 seconds very closely followed by regular Sam Ponter, only 1 second behind.  Our first lady home was Jenna Squire with a new pb of 8:48.

39 of our young people were here for the first time and 36 gained new pbs including Georgia Cox, Clara Andrews, Ella Harris, Daisy Nisbet, Harry Stone, Tobias Relph and Ben Watts to name a few. The male record is still held by George Tester at 6:58 and the female record is Macey Barrett at 8 minutes and 18 seconds.

As always, a big thanks to all our volunteers for making a special effort on a Sunday morning.  If you want to sample how great it feels to be part of this amazing event, just e-mail and ask to be added to the roster.  If you fancy trying a role other than marshalling, please say.  We need people for all the roles!
