If you decide to join us there are a couple of important points that you need to be aware of:

1. Just 5 days ago 80% of the course was under water. That water has now receded but it has understandably left the course VERY muddy. There is mud on the paths, mud on the bridges and mud on the mud. The section in the trees is about as squelchy, slippery and (yes) muddy as can be imagined.

2. Unfortunately our hot water urn was flood damaged and has been scrapped so there will be no after-run teas or coffees available this week or for the next few weeks at least. We have very gratefully received a number of donations towards replacing the urn and some of the other key kit that was damaged. If you would like to contribute to this there will be a collection bucket tomorrow, or you can go to the link on this page: https://www.parkrun.org.uk/lydney/aboutus/

So if parkrun for you is about having a coffee whilst showing off your bright white new running shoes then perhaps this is not your week, otherwise see you tomorrow. Bring your trail runners and bags of banter!

#212 – 4th January 2020

Lydney parkrun
Event number 212
4th January 2020

It was a pleasure to visit Lydney parkrun this week as 135 individuals gathered round the lake to celebrate the parkrun's fourth birthday.
There were cheers
, applause , tea and of course - cake.
Happy birthday to us.
What a year it was and here's some of the numbers which highlight the fact that we have a lot to celebrate.

Last year's 53 runs saw
Ali Assirati complete 49 events and was our most present female runner.
For the men we saw Graham Worthy complete 43 runs
Our juniors with the greatest attendance, both with 37 events, were George & Harriet Stubbs
Walter Leach had the most known first finishes with five but someone called unknown topped that with six!
779 different runners joined us at our event
NYD alone we had 204 first timers
30820km were run at Lydney
Seth
, Brian and Sandra, from our core team of volunteers, turned out an astonishing 134 times for us too.
In amongst our group of 23 first timers was a posse from the late and lamented Little Stoke parkrun who joined us today to celebrate as Bob Howell and Abby Troke notching up their 250th run and elevation to the green t-shirt club. Well done both.
Numbers were slightly down on New Year but we still saw a small influx of brand new parkrunners. We know there were at least four but there may have been more as we had three unknowns today #NBNTNE. Make it a resolution to remember #DFYB :-)
4 parkrunners squeezed in a PB today. Well done to Peter Covington JonesMatthew HowardFelicity Russell and Mel Gilbert
19 different clubs took part and travelled from as far afield as Lancaster, Winchester,  Bristol and Glucester.
It was fantastic to see so many here today and let's hope the new year resolution gets more into the parkun revolution of communities coming together to walk, jog ,  run or volunteer at parkrun. Outside of New Year we have bettered these numbers just 25 times but with the expected boos of get fit we expect the next couple of weeks to be even busier.
Our thanks go to this week's team of hardy volunteersV without whom we could not put on parkrun:
Anne KIRK • Mark WILLIAMSON • Joanne PRICE • Nicki ALLEN • David PRICE • James KIRK • Amelia WARREN • Brian PRICE • Robin GRANT • Martina MITCHARD • Seth PETERS • Andrew LONG • Nicola MILLIN • Zowie PARKER • Sandra HAWKINS • John PLEWS
If you want to give volunteering a go , please don't be shy and do come and give it a try. Full training and support will be given , you'll get a lot of thanks and you will be part of something very special.
Happy new year eceryone and keep on parkrunning
