It was with a sense of excitement that Tracey and I set off from Taunton to Mallards Pike parkrun. For the last few weeks we have experienced torrential rain and blustering winds. Planning where to go being weather dependent and subject to last minute change. Will the event be on or off? Is it running shoes, trail shoes, wellies or flippers? Or should I just stay at home and start building an Ark?

Thankfully Mallards Pike parkrun was a “go” and my journey was rewarded with a delightful course and the company of enthusiastic volunteers and runners. Tourists came from far and wide, Ruardean, Ashton Court, Bath Skyline, Eastville, Grangemoor, Llangadog, Droitwich, Malvern and Taunton. There were representatives from 22 clubs; Torfaen Runners, Malvern Joggers, Spirit of Monmouth RC, Forest of Dean AC, Malvern Joggers, Droitwich AC, Southville Running Club, Chepstow Harriers, Black Pear Joggers, Run Grangetown, Corsham RC, This Mum Runs, SGC Striders, Undy & Redwick Runners, Lliswerry Runners, Stanbridge Fliers, Gloucester Athletic Club, Cheltenham Tri Club, Lonely Goat Club, Hogweed Trotters, Running Forever Running Club and UK parkrun tourists.

The course is a single lap on a hardcore, purpose built, permanent track. The course is run entirely on wide fire trail paths. Start and finish within a short walk (400yards) of the main car park.
