As I did my impression of a TV sloth on Saturday evening it rained that heavily that I wondered whether Westend Park would change into Westend lake however my fears were unfounded as when I turned up at 7:45 to join Andrew Wool to set up the course we only had one small puddle at what used to be the Captain Birdseye corner until Tic shaved his beard off and it’s now just High 5 corner.
Two of the marshals, Roz Coombs and Joseph Fitches, turned up early and helped us set out the course which was a great help.
Andrew greeted everyone to the parkrun and this week he had a number of milestone to celebrate with Sally Mills running her 100th parkrun and Alan Turpie his 100th March parkrun. We also had three people doing their 50th parkrun Grant Lenton, Dennis Willis and Chris Amps – well done all. Tourists from Birmingham, the Isle of Man and King’s Lynn were all greeted before we headed off to the start.
On a warm morning first finisher was the long striding Ramsey Road Runner Simon Mead he was followed in by Luke Brown, who is now more streamlined having shaved off his beard, and young Louis Beningfield who once again had a great run. First lady home was Allys Kelsey with a PB second lady was Lesley Wright just ahead of another Ramsey Road Runner Olivia Mead. 31 runners got PB’s Including Keith Saward who after years of running being interrupted by injury has returned to running via parkrun and at over 85 is an inspiration.
This week 172 people ran, jogged and walked the course, of whom 13 were first timers and 30 recorded new Personal Bests. Representatives of 13 different clubs took part.
The event was made possible by 20 volunteers:
Roz COOMBS • Gillian HOLMES • Stephen COWELL • Samantha WOOL • Katie LEACH • Gayna OROURKE • Georgina JACKMAN • Raymond FEW • Grace WOOL • Andrew WOOL • Jake LEACH • Joanne ANDERSON • Claire WRIGHT • Isla LEACH • Alan PUGH • June DANIEL • Jim REEVES • Louise GOAKES • Joseph FITCHES • Karen JACKSON • Noah WOOL
