We were over the 200 participant barrier for March Park Run Event No 182, with 24 being a significant number for the run. We had 24 new PBs and 24 volunteers (and thank you all for your help today). There was a real mix of people, with runners from Portsmouth, Blackpool and Kings Lynn, plus the biggest cheer and G'Day went to the Australian runners.
The event started with Marshal Tick deciding to slow down one of the younger runners (Noah) by holding him back - this has little impact on the lad's run, who quickly recovered from the Tick Kidnap Incident. In splendid weather and lots of cheering from the Marshals, plus a 90s Night Club Corner (I swear I heard some Kylie and Shape Shifters blaring out), there was certainly a great atmosphere, with the usual encouragement from fellow runners and spectators. A special mention to Sally Mills, who was proudly wearing her 100 event running top for the first time and the excellent photographer who smiled throughout and took hundreds of photos. Also a well done to Carole Davis who got her best time of the year and run the event non-stop for the first time since her ankle injury and Emma Frost. Frosty is a March Town United player and runs regularly to improve her fitness (the same goes for Dani Green of Park Ladies) - top effort girls.
In the group of first runners to complete the course today, we had Simon Mead and first timers to Park Run - Joel Molloy and Daniel Snipe. But the event is all about the 201 runners and well done all for participating. Hopefully, the run set everyone up for a top Bank Holiday Weekend.
Finally, just a request for some additional marshals. We had a fantastic turn out again this week but I know that some of these volunteers would also like to run. If you have completed a milestone, perhaps 10, 25 or 50 runs, how about giving a bit back and thanking those marshals by offering to help with the volunteering. It would be great to see some new faces marshaling and after doing one volunteer role you really do feel part of the event and want to do it again and again!!!
This week 201 people ran, jogged and walked the course, of whom 23 were first timers and 27 recorded new Personal Bests. Representatives of 24 different clubs took part.
The event was made possible by 24 volunteers:
Mark DARLOW • Stephen COWELL • Samantha WOOL • Dawn VEAL • Teilo PEARCE • Gayna OROURKE • Emma UDEN • Georgina JACKMAN • Raymond FEW • Patricia NORRIS • Gary DAVIS • Andrea LONG • Gemma SOMMERSBY • Chris UDEN • Toni ALCARAZ • Sean STACEY • Alexander SHAW • Andrew WOOLLEY • Linda RETCHLESS • Marcus RETCHLESS • Maria WRIGHT • Andrew MURRAY • Amy DODSON • Beryl TOTH
