Christmas and New Year at Margate parkrun

As we hurtle towards the festive season, our minds turn towards the thought of extra parkruns, and this year at Margate is no exception!

We will be running as normal on Saturday 23rd and Saturday 30th December. There will also be the opportunity to log an extra, special, festive parkrun on Monday 25th December at 9:31, meeting at the usual place.
Please note that the roads around the start area may be busier than normal and therefore we ask you to allow extra time to get parked; remembering that parking on the grass and gravel next to the start is prohibited. There also won't be any facilities (loos, cafe etc) available on Christmas morning, so please make sure you're comfortable before leaving home.
If you're not able to run, but can volunteer to help out on Christmas Day, please do get in touch, we will need the usual number of volunteers to ensure the run happens safely.

On New Year's Day, there won't be an extra event at Margate, but you are able to tour locally to Whitstable (9 am), Pegwell Bay (10 am) and Canterbury (10:30 am). Remember that you're allowed to log two runs on NYD, but please drive responsibly when dashing between parkruns. If you're away over the festive period, the Christmas Compendium lists all the extra runs that will be taking place.

On behalf of all the core team at Margate, we'd like to wish you a very Happy Christmas and a safe and prosperous New Year.

First parkrun of 2016

With the proximity of parkrunday to the special days this year, the event team have taken the decision not to put too much pressure on our hard-working volunteers and therefore we will NOT be holding an extra run on New Years Day this year. We realise that this will come as a disappointment to some of you, but we wanted to give our volunteers a well earned rest ready for their normal duties on Saturday 2nd January.

Please don't be too disappointed though, as you'll still be able to take part in 2 local runs on Friday 1st January: Our friends up the coast at Whitstable will be running at 9am, whilst over at Pegwell Bay they will start at 10:30. Therefore (and you're allowed to do this) you can log two runs on New Years Day by running at Whitstable before heading over to Pegwell and running there. If you don't want to run both, why not contact the event teams and offer your services as a volunteer, they'd love your help!

We of course will see you all as normal at Margate on Saturday 2nd January at 9am.

Margate parkrun – New Year’s Day 2015

We're delighted to announce that following our recent poll of runners we have decided to hold an event on New Year's Day 2015.

This is a special occasion in the parkrun year as it's the only day you're entitled to log 2 runs and this year you have a choice of which runs to do locally!

Both Whitstable and Pegwell Bay will be holding an event at 9am whilst we will be starting at 10:30am. This will give those of you that wish, the opportunity to visit another location, run and then travel to Margate to run again.

We're expecting a good turnout and will be following our usual course. If you don't fancy running on NYD, but would like to be a part of the day, why not consider volunteering to help out? We would love some of your friendly faces greeting our visitors on the day and helping them not to get lost. If you, or someone you know is able to help out, please email and let us know at

We hope that the Café will be open post-run and would love to see loads of you there to join us for a post-double-run coffee or early lunch.

New Year’s Day parkrun

Following the vote of runners at this morning's event, we can confirm that we will be running a parkrun on New Years Day.

As you are allowed to complete and log 2 runs on NYD we have timed our event to allow you to run twice should you wish. We will therefore be starting at 10:30am. This will give those of you that wish to, the chance to run at Whitstable at 9am and then travel down to us in time for the 10:30 start.
