Run Report – Week 62- 29/2/20

Event 62 offered the first opportunity to run a parkrun on February 29th!! This will not be possible again for another 28 years, in 2048, so it really was a special day. For myself and my daughter it was even more special as we both completed our 50th parkruns!! We had arrived at the Racecourse at 7:45 to help with setting the course up in the wind and rain, but even this didn't dampen our spirits. The mention we got in the briefing was also special as it was given by RD Richard Hallsworth aka Daddy/Husband. Thank you to everyone who made our day one to remember, you were all so supportive and cheery :) We love our parkrun family!!

In total 95 people completed our course this week, merrily splashing through the water feature that had once again made a return. The cold, windy conditions were not ideal for running but despite this 14 people managed a PB, well done to you. We also welcomed 9 first timers to Market Rasen this week of which 5 completed their first ever parkrun!!

This week the top three finishing men were;

1. Andrew Reynolds 18:12

2. Mark Lee 18:22

3. Raymond Clayton 18:44

Whilst the first three ladies through the finishing funnel were;

1. Emma Bell 24:12

2. Donna Adlard  25:27

3. Jane Oxby 25:59

Our course records remain at 15:11 for the men and 16:31 for the ladies.

Incredibly there was also one new age category record set this week, very well done to Philip Marsland.

I think everyone who was there on Saturday would agree that the volunteers did an amazing job and deserved the biggest round of applause of the day. It was cold, it was wet and it was windy but they never stopped smiling and offering encouragement. Without such amazing people parkrun could not happen so if you haven't volunteered before then please consider giving it a go. Everyone will tell you its a lot of fun and you get to see parkrun from a very different point of view.

Next week, March 7th, sees parkrun helping to celebrate International Women's Day so if you know anyone who has been thinking of trying parkrun, and hasn't yet taken the plunge, then encourage them to come this week!! Whether it be to run, walk or volunteer we would love to see them.

Thanks as always to our supporters; Market Rasen Round Table, Duckworths, PK Construction, Brianplant, Smiffys, Nicholsons and of course, Market Rasen Racecourse.

International Women’s Day event at Market Rasen Racecourse parkrun – 07/03/2020

On Saturday March 7th, we'll be supporting International Women's Day and celebrating female participation at Market Rasen Racecourse parkrun.

There will be a special welcome flag to direct new participants to the First Timer's briefing and a #IWDparkrun selfie frame for you to use in photos on social media as part of the Sport England campaign, This Girl Can.

More information on #IWDparkrun events is available here:

https://blog.parkrun.com/uk/2020/02/05/help-us-celebrate-female-participation-for-iwdparkrun/

We hope everyone will join us to celebrate IWD and to show how inclusive and supportive parkrun is, why not bring along a female friend, colleague or family member and walk, jog, run or volunteer together!

Run Report – Event 58 – 01/02/2020

This week 239 people ran, jogged and walked the course, of whom 41 were first timers at the Racecourse and 13 completed their very first parkrun. We hope to see you all again very soon.  There were a fantastic 46 new Personal Bests and representatives of 20 different clubs took part. Visitors from Maidstone and Conkers parkrun plus Hull and Lincoln were welcomed.

The weather for the 58th parkrun, like the team at Market Rasen Racecourse parkrun, was warm and welcoming: even on the first lap where the southwesterly was intent on blowing you back to Laura’s corner it soon switched to a positive force.

The first three male finishers were:
Andrew Reynolds 17.33
Lee Leggett 18.14 (PB)
Raymond Clayton 18.20 (PB)

And the first three female finishers were:
Joanne Patch 22.37
Heather Allaway 22.42
Rebecca Hodson 24.27

A big thank you to our amazing 25 volunteers: Mike WELLS • Sarah WELLS • Frankie THOMAS • Tina THOMAS • Andy WALTON • Laura SUTHERLAND • Lydia WALTON • Chris RAMSAY • Fran ALLISON • Alison DALE • Carolyn FRANCE • Robin HARRISON • Elizabeth WOOD • Ollie KIDD • Michael BRUCE • Mark KIDD • Moira WESTLEY • Derek COMMANDER • Jill COMMANDER • Isabelle FRANCE • Barbara HANCOCK • Phil MCNEIL • Amanda CURTIS • Kate HANCOCK • Julie TAYLOR -

At the helm this week was Run Director Chris Ramsay, who guided the event with the calm assurance we expect from someone completing his 50th volunteering voyage.

Beatlemania took over with a memorable speech from parkrun Ambassador Matt Storey who revelled in the 60s theme on behalf of Lydia Walton, who ran her 60th parkrun on her 60th birthday. Her attempt to nail 60% Age Grading overshot the mark but, needless to say she was very pleased with a first in her age category for the first time ever. Post run entertainment by Frankie Thomas as Sir Paul McCartney was most appreciated as was the 60s buffet of cheese and pineapple on sticks and amazing pineapple upside down cakes.

Run Report – Event 57 – 25/01/2020

Event 57 took place a week later than expected, due to our first ever ice-related cancellation the previous week. Thanks for everyone's understanding about the need for us to cancel on 18th January, whilst we will always hold an event if we can, the safety of participants (and volunteers) is our top priority and it simply wouldn't have been safe to go ahead that day.

Thankfully by Saturday 25th January, the weather was far more temperate with only a moderate breeze, and no water hazards or ice / snow on the course.

Of the 165 parkrunners this week, 16 people completed their first ever parkrun. Well done to you and welcome to the parkrun family. We had a total of 24 first time visitors to our course this week and 36 people earned themselves a PB, congratulations to you all!

There were milestone celebrations this week for Zak Thompson, who ran his 10th parkrun, and Jonathan Kerry, who ran his 50th. Congratulations to you both and we hope your new t-shirts will be with you very soon.

Our course records remain at 15:11 for the men and 16:31 for the ladies.

Big thanks to our amazing 24 volunteers for standing out in the chilly conditions this week. If you'd like to join the hi-vis fun this coming Saturday, or any future week, you can see the roles available here: please email: marketrasenracecourse@parkrun.com if you'd like to help out, thanks!

We look forward to seeing you all on Saturday for event #58, which we're sure is going to be another memorable parkrun morning!

Run Report – Event 55 – 04/01/2020

The first Market Rasen Racecourse parkrun event of the 2020s sure was another cracker!

Car park marshal Frankie welcomed throngs of new parkrunners, returning regulars and tourists from far and wide to the Racecourse, and before the run briefing had started, it was clear we were in for one of our busiest events so far!

There were a fantastic 46 first timers in attendance, with tourists including Lottie Wilson and Robyn Wilson from Minippi parkrun in Australia: with Lottie running and Robyn volunteering as a marshal. Amongst the first timers at the Racecourse were 18 people who completed their very first parkrun, anywhere, we hope it will be the first of many!

We also had several runners completing milestone runs, with juniors Rosie Griffiths and William Ryland completing their 10th parkruns and regular pacing volunteer Sean Ashton his 50th. We look forward to seeing you all in your milestone t-shirts soon!

In total, there were 226 finishers at Event 55, that's the biggest ever winter attendance at Market Rasen Racecourse parkrun and the fourth biggest total we've yet had at any time of the year, it's great to see our event continuing to grow.

First of the 226 parkrunners across the line at event 55 was MRR parkrun core team member Andrew Reynolds in a time of 17:11, his 8th first finish so far at our course. There was a very close battle to be first female finisher, with former course record holder Sophie Wallis smashing her previous best with a big PB (17:40) and new F25-29 age grade record, just ahead of well-known local runner Natalie Farrow (17:42), who also set a new F35-39 age category record on her first visit to the event.

Second male across the line was Will Cooper in a new PB of 17:39, with third male finisher Adam Foster also setting a new PB of 18:42. The good conditions on the morning, with no water jump and a moderate crosswind helped no fewer than 36 participants to set new PBs, well done to everyone who set a new best time!

In the 'level playing field' age graded league, Natalie Farrow was top with 84.46%, followed by Sophie Wallis (83.77%) and Richard Conway (77.23%)

Full results can browsed, sorted and searched here:

In total, 23 hi-viz heroes made this week's parkrun event possible, if you'd like to lend a hand at a future event, please email: marketrasenracecourse@parkrun.com it's loads of fun and full training is given. You can see the current state of the roster for future weeks here.

Run Report – Event 47 – 02/11/2019

Our 1st anniversary celebration event!

It was a memorable occasion at Market Rasen Racecourse on Saturday morning, whether you were following the Rugby World Cup whilst at the Racecourse or avoiding the result until after, a fantastic total of 185 runners, joggers and walkers joined us for our first birthday event. Coinciding with the rugby game, history was made on Saturday 2nd November 2019, as we kicked off with our 9am 'Only Fools and Horses' themed fancy dress event.

Event #47 welcomed 31 first timers – congratulations, we hope you enjoyed your first Market Rasen Racecourse parkrun and we look forward to seeing you again very soon.

It was a nice and sunny start to the day and for the most part a rainless November morning until the very end. Given the better conditions compared to last weekend, we saw representatives of 23 different clubs this Saturday including several parkrun tourists who claimed to be visiting from Peckham, South London (though they looked remarkably like some familiar faces we often see at MRR parkrun)!

Thanks to everyone who came along to take part and to volunteer and thank you to all the Del Boys, Rodneys, Triggers, Marlenes, horses and jockeys for crossing the finish line in style… the quality and variety of costumes on show made the event that much more special and memorable.

This week the top three finishing men were:
1. Philip Nind 16:12 (PB)
2. Andrew Reynolds 17:16
3. James McNamee 17:36

Whilst the first three ladies through the finishing funnel were:
1. Kerry Stainton 22:04
2. Louise Smith 22:08
3. Deborah Simpson 22:27 (PB)

Our course records remain at 15:13 for the men and 18:27 for the ladies.

There were a total of 25 personal bests recorded this week, congratulations all on your fantastic achievements! Among them was our first finisher, Philip Nind, and our third lady, Deborah Simpson, really well done to you both!

We are very grateful to the 30 volunteers this week, the highest number of volunteers we've yet had in a non-pacer week, we hope everyone enjoyed donning the hi-viz! Amongst the 1st anniversary stats announced during the run briefing, we were informed that over 200 different volunteers have helped out at the event during the first year, a fantastic number!

We're looking very short of volunteers at the moment for this coming Saturday's Event #48, so if you'd like to help out and have some hi-viz fun, please email:

marketrasenracecourse@parkrun.com

Happy running and until next time. #loveparkrun.

Market Rasen Racecourse parkrun
Event number 36
27th July 2019

This week Market Rasen Racecourse parkrun was made possible by the efforts of the volunteers.

Thank you - Amber HALLSWORTH, Andrew REYNOLDS, Claire BYATT, Frankie THOMAS, Joanne RAMSAY, June CLARK, Kerry HALLSWORTH, Louise ROBINSON, Mary FARMERY, Mike ECKERSLEY, Mike WELLS, Moira WESTLEY, Paul RHODES, Peter DODDS, Rachel ECKERSLEY, Sarah WELLS, Susan KEEN, Thomas ROBINSON, Tom CARTER

Remember – YOU can also volunteer to make this event happen in future weeks. PLEASE follow the link on the home page & make a difference.

Parkrun day or Saturday as normal folk call it dawned to reveal very damp conditions and a temperature of only 16 degrees compared to the high 20’s & low 30’s of the previous few days. The four of us were looking forward to another crack at MRRP as we left the house at 8am. However after sheltering under the lean -to opposite AP’s Bar for a few minutes to keep out of the heavier rain and meeting people who had come over from Rother Valley & one or two who run here regularly it was definitely going to be a wet one. Those conversations did confirm that the parkrun track had been resurfaced since our last visit and was now tarmac. It doesn’t make it any easier though!

Today’s parkrun enabled 116 runners, joggers & walkers to complete the single small loop followed by two laps of the inside of the racecourse before peeling left into the finish & a warm reception from the high viz heroes & faster runners who had already completed their runs.

There were 30 first timers to the course, including 9 who chose this as their first ever parkrun. Welcome to parkrun. It is certainly one you will remember. They are not always this wet!!! Visitors today included Matthew HOLDEN from Saint Andrews (the home of Golf). We hope you all enjoyed it and come back soon.

An incredible Eighteen of you recorded new Personal Bests. Congratulations one & all.

Richard APPLEWHITE, Robert PATCH, Joanne PATCH, Catherine APPLEWHITE, Matthew LEA, Alice ACKROYD, Michael CASON, Martin PATCH, Andrew PALMER, Faris ALDERSON, Anthony ALDERSON, Georgina RHODES, Anthony MILES, Clare HARBORD, Suzanne MARSHALL-MOORE, Keith WINNARD, Kathleen HANCOCK & finally Clive KNIGHTS

Joanne PATCH (VW45-49) was third in 23:45

Market Rasen Racecourse parkrun started on 3rd November 2018 and since then 1784 different runners have completed 5681 runs covering a total distance of 28405km, and there have been 1660 Personal Bests.
