Marshall Drive parkrun, Brotton – Event number 66 -18th September 2021

Well the alphabet parkrun was a first for me today. Three lovely ladies from Hartlepool are striving to complete a parkrun for every letter of the alphabet. Unfortunately only 2 out of 3 completed M for Marshall Drive. The third lady injured her ankle before they had even gone to the start line. Consequently she now has a fractured bone in her ankle. She was gutted and has promised to come back to complete ‘M’.

Half of our runners today were first timers. I think word of our small but perfectly formed parkrun is spreading. Our first finisher was a regular,  Joe Blackett . He was very proud and rightly so. I think we had our first buggy being pushed round the course today. I say pushed I think flying is a more appropriate word. The buggy contained a 3 and 5 year old who were unscathed at the end and happily went to play on the play area.
There were lots of GNR T shirts worn today. Well done to the runners wearing them.
Thank you to the helpful runners who walked the course to check it for us and one who ran and then became a barcode scanner. That extra help is very valuable. We had some very complimentary comments about our volunteers today which is always appreciated. We have a full roster for next week so Joanne hopefully can have a less stressful week. Thanks everybody and see you next time.
This week 39 people ran, jogged and walked the course, of whom 20 were first timers and 2 recorded new Personal Bests. Representatives of 10 different clubs took part.

The event was made possible by 12 volunteers:

Paul WAUGH • Joanne MARSHALL • Jane GLASPER • Paul Richard TIDY • Elliot THURLAND • Judith BRIDGETT • Malcolm PEGGS • Sonia STOCKS • David STOCKS • Alan HARRISON • Mark SHORT • Beth PEARSON
