Meadowmill parkrun is cancelled on 2021-05-15 – COVID-19 (Coronavirus)

Meadowmill parkrun Event 52; 14 March 2020

This week saw the course starting to dry out since the recent wet weather giving the potential for PB’s, and indeed congratulations to the 17 runners who did record a fastest time for the course (for stats fans, that’s nearly 1/4 of today’s field). Even the sun started to shine mid-way through the morning and Run Director Ruth had to ditch her winter coat :D

We are always grateful for the support from our volunteers, giving of their time to allow a safe and enjoyable run for all. But particularly today, in light of the unprecedented situation developing around us and across the globe, our volunteers merit a special round of applause and our gratitude. THANK YOU - you are all stars.

We hope that parkrun will be on as usual next Saturday, but we will abide by advice from government and parkrun HQ - stay tuned to our Facebook page this week for the latest update.

Stay safe everyone.

Meadowmill parkrun Event #51 07 March 2020

It was a pleasure to welcome 83 runners/joggers/walkers and 18 volunteers to Meadowmill parkrun on a bright though windy Saturday morning.  We had a good number turning out in purple to celebrate International Women's Day (#IWD).  IWD is celebrated annually on March 8 and is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. We are proud to have so many women regularly supporting Meadowmill parkrun (and we appreciate our gentlemen supporters too of course ;) ). Kudos to Juliet Nisbet who was head to toe in purple - great effort!

Thanks to the 13 first timers who joined us (especially Daniel, Emily and Claire for whom it was your very first parkrun) - we hope you enjoyed your visit and that we will see you back at Meadowmill soon.  And big congratulations to the 20 runners who recorded new Personal Best times.

Representatives of 13 different clubs took part.  Remember you can associate yourself to a club by editing your parkrun profile (ensure your emergency contact information is always up to date while you are there!).  You can also opt in to receive emails from parkrun HQ and from our own event, retrieve your barcode, view your runs and so much more !!

Leap year parkrun

29th February Saturday, quite a special date for all parkunners. The next time you will be able to run parkrun on 29th February will be 2048. The weather was gentle to us and we even had some sun coming through.

We had a special guest from Gotham City who was keeping an eye on everyone especially on our narrow railway path!

You did very well Batman (Allan) in your rather tight and uncomfortable outfit. And most importantly for a great cause too.

Event 49 – 15/02/19

As late as Friday, it was debatable as to whether or not we would have a parkrun today. There was lots of puddles and mud along the course midweek. Thanks to a dry night, we were able to go ahead.

Today was a first since we ran our alternative route. The hill at the start of the railway path had a nasty puddle, so we opted for a 3 lap route, that omitted the there and back section. This seemed to work OK. As it is a bit flatter than normal, one or two people got a PB. Our regular runner Nic of course, who doesn't bother too much about his time, opted to run up the battle monument three times! For some reason he put the blame on instructions from the RD! For those of you with a bit more sanity, the monument is there every week - as an option. We will never force anyone up murder hill.

As ever, we welcomed some charming parkrun tourists - this week from Kilmarnock, Wimbledon and Manchester.

This week 80 people ran, jogged and walked the course, of whom 13 were first timers and 16 recorded new Personal Bests. Representatives of 17 different clubs took part.

The event was made possible by 14 volunteers:

Elizabeth GILCHRIST • Siobhan SELLAR • Lynda ROWAN • Robin STRAIN • Ruth WELLWOOD • Andy MURRAY • Lauren ELLIOTT • Jennifer ANDERSON • Adrian GREEN • Tommy FALLON • Thomas AITKEN • John RICE • Grace FALLON • Rachael BOYD

Meadowmill 1st birthday

What a relief it was that storm Ciara was considerate enough to hit after all parkrurners crossed the finish line. In fact it was a glorious sunny morning, just the weather we ordered for our 1st birthday.  It has been quite a year- we got so much support from local community, those who volunteered and those who run/jog/walk over the last year. We all learnt a lot - mostly how to fold the pop up banner :-)

Maedowmill parkrun definiately strengthen the community and improved lives of many. Over the last year we heard so many good stories about the impact parkrun has had on many of our regulars and tourists. We take pride in our small friendly parkrun and always welcome new faces with a smile and a wee chat.  We all made friends through parkrun that I personally hope will remain my friends for years to come. If you want to get involved either as a volunteer or as a core team member let us know!

We would like to thank you all core team members for making the magic happen every week, all our regular volunteers, our ambassadors - Andrew and Michelle, Meadowmill Sports Centre for letting us use their grounds. Thank you to every one of you who brought cakes yesterday especially to Isla Wellwood, Juliet Nisbet and Michelle Kirkbright who baked delicious s birthday cake and cup cakes.

33 parkrunners achieved their PBs - they really couldnt wait to dig into the cakes ! We welcomed  22 first timers - we hope you will come back.

There are plenty of great photos from our 1st birthday on our facebook page - thank you to our lovely photographer Mags for running around to capture all the happy moments.
