Melksham parkrun 102#

The first run of 2020 saw a splendid turnout of 296 as parkrunners ran, jogged and walked the course in conditions which saw a marked improvement on recent weeks.
We welcomed a huge 93 first timers today, many of whom would have been seeking to complete a parkrun New Year's double at one of our nearby sister events. Representatives of 45 clubs took part, and we welcomed tourists from far afield, including Anglesey, South Yorkshire and Singapore!
27 runners recorded personal bests, despite the course being somewhat slippery in places.
Attending the event as a tourist, I managed to arrive at 7.45am, for some reason expecting an 8.30am start! Eventually finding the car park adjacent to the start and finish area, we did a short warm-up, my wife declaring that it would be `Scooby-Doo' running in places, due to muddy sections. I found the course a delightful all-round challenge, comprising tarmac, trail, grass and mud sections. There was never time to become bored running a particular section, as a turn or change of surface was always `just around the corner’. There was friendly encouragement all the way round and we thoroughly enjoyed our experience, never having visited Melksham before. We now have a new running route to follow for when we do return – many thanks!
