Melton Mowbray junior parkrun is cancelled on 28/08/22 – Event moved to Play Close Park juniors from now

More info on the relaunch 28th August at Play Close Park

In the build up to our relaunch as Play Close Park junior parkrun on 28th August, we have some info to share and people to thank.

First up it's the Melton Mowbray Town Estate who have very kindly given permission for our event to use their wonderful parks and provided storage for our equipment too.
MMTE was founded in 1549 for the benefit of the town's citizens and still looks after the town parks, market and other recreational facilities.
There's plenty to enjoy in the town parks - the play areas, outdoor gym, inflatables, mini-train, skate park plus music on the bandstand and other events during the year.

Next up, something very practical.
One thing we've sometimes struggled with at Melton juniors is having very limited access to toilet facilities.
A definite improvement we can offer at Play Close Park - thanks to Waterfield Leisure Centre - is that you'll be able to use their toilets. Just head over the bridge to the leisure centre and show a parkrun barcode to the receptionist.

Finally, what's better than a coffee, cake or ice cream after a junior parkrun?
We'll head over the bridge into Wilton Park to indulge at the Pavilion Tea Room afterwards - come and join us!

Start date confirmed

It's been confirmed that our first junior parkrun at Play Close Park will be Sunday 28th August. Looking forward to seeing you all in the new venue soon!
Until then, we continue at the Melton Country Park each week as usual.

Our junior parkrun is moving!

As some of you know, we're moving to a new location in Melton town centre soon, thanks to Melton Mowbray Town Estate.

We're waiting for confirmation of exactly WHEN the move will happen, but will share with you all via Facebook and our website when we know more.

We'll have a new name as well - Play Close Park junior parkrun.

As well as hopefully being accessible to more children in the Melton area, there are great facilities in and around the park for those that want to stay and play or have a coffee and a chat afterwards.

Please talk to the core team of volunteers if you'd like to know more in the meantime.

Christmas and New Year

All parkruns in the UK have the option of staging an extra event on Christmas Day and New Year's Day if they don't fall on a normal parkrunday. These both fall on a Saturday this year.
We've decided not to hold any extra events this time and will also cancel the event that would take place on Boxing Day (Sunday 26th December).

Our last event before Christmas will be Sunday 19th December and then we'll take a break until Sunday 2nd January.

If you miss your parkrun fix during this time, why not go along to Melton Mowbray parkrun (5K) on Christmas Day or take a look at neighborouring junior parkruns.

Para Sport Event 5th September 2021

Today we attended the Para Sport event organised by Melton Borough Council in Wilton Park to showcase a number of inclusive local groups and activities - such as the cubs, bowls, boccia & new age curling, blind football, stretch & mobility, tennis and wheelchair basketball.

On a lovely sunny day, we talked to a number of children and families about junior parkrun and parkrun and did a mini taster event around the park.

Well done to the 8 children that took part - at least a couple did the route more than once! See link below for the results:
