Mile End parkrun 403 – 26/10/19

Lovely race report from a parkrun tourist, Graham Lee:

Three of us ventured across the river from Bexley to participate in today’s Mile End parkrun. This was a return visit having previously ran at this event nearly 1 year to the day. We had originally chosen this event as a “warmup” to the Poppy Run which took place at Victoria Park and had little hesitation keeping to the same itinerary this year.

What parkrun has provided is the opportunity to visit London parks which would not have necessarily been on our to do list. We have participated in 37 different events and each have their own personality. Mile End is no exception. A predominately flat tarmac course but with a challenging up and down around the half way point on each lap. A mix of old and new with a scenic run along Regents Canal with its barges and waterside buildings offset by the modern backdrop of Canary Wharf at the finish.

Conditions were good for running with the rain holding off and I’m sure everyone was grateful for this given the weather during the week. I’m not sure how numbers fared this week but may have been impacted by a certain Rugby semi-final; it will be interesting to see what happens next Saturday!

Thanks to the Run Director and her team of volunteers. As expected at parkrun, a friendly welcome and well-organised event. Toilet facilities are available at the start / finish and a very welcome coffee awaits at the finish (and brownies at the token collection point).

A recommended event to put on your list to visit.
