Montrose parkrun #107 The St Cyrus Solos Takeover

With the threat of thunder, lightning and heavy rain for parkrun day, as RD for the day it was a pleasant relief to wake up to an overcast, but warm morning. It was a takeover week at Montrose, and the St.Cyrus Solos Running Club turned up sharp to help set up for our 107th event.

When we arrived we found some caravan's on the field and realised it was Montrose Model Aero Club's annual summer "fly-in" It's something we have become used to at Montrose, and as usual they were very informative about the route they will be taking and their start time of 10.30 which doesn't interfere with parkrun. It's great that the different clubs can use the space together.20190727_102040

This week 151 people ran, jogged or walked the course, of whom 20 were first timers and 35 of you achieved new PB's.  We had visitors from Blairgowrie, Dundee, Dunfermline, Livingston, Edinburgh, and Abu Dhabi. We hope you enjoyed our course.

Being the last Saturday of the month it was also pacer week, something I forgot to mention at the pre-run brief (sorry about that!).  Pacing is not the easiest thing to do and we very much appreciate those who step forward to help other try to achieve PB's.

RD Jamie had a bit of an injury this week and was advised "no running" so switched from pacing 22 mins to 45mins and found himself waiting at the finish line to cross the line on time. We think he should stick to the 22 in future!

As well as volunteering this week 3 of our St Cyrus volunteers also donned our capes and joined the 50 club a massive well done to Ethan and Tracy Harrison and Michelle Wainwright.

The St Cyrus Solos started back in 2016 and have grown in size from just Si turning up at the hall to over 50 members, and organising the inaugural  St Cyrus 10k back in June which was a great success.  The club meets on Tuesday and Thursday at 7.30pm at the St Cyrus Hall, where all abilities are welcome and runs are tailored to suit everyone. They are a friendly bunch as you can see....

We very much appreciate the support that we get from all our local clubs, be it running, tennis, triathlon or cycling and welcome new volunteers at any time.
