December News (& a little bit of January)

On the first day of Christmas, my parkrun sent to me...

2nd December
parkrun as usual - good weather guaranteed!**

9th December

Mount Edgcumbe House and Country Park is holding the annual Christmas Fayre. Due to tents, hay bales and dromedarius-es (real ones), The Edgcumbe core team will be paying a visit to the new Eden Project parkrun (followed by a return for some crafty bargains, of course).

If you are keen to join us, please their website for details about how to get there:
There may be the opportunity to car share so please keep keep an eye on our facebook page to organise this between each other. Please note that we bear no responsibility for a lack of Werthers in the glove box.

23rd December
parkrun with a Festive theme
Its that time of year! We all love a fancy dress and an excuse to eat a mince pie after a run. Get your themed outfits on. The highlight of last year was our Williams Family's festive sleigh ride. And the rather more leftfield viking, of course.
Christmas Eve parkrun - reverse route and a viking.

And then to the Christmas parkrun compendium!

Each year over the festive period, local parkruns can opt in to go the extra 3.1miles and offer bonus runs on Christmas Day and New Years Day. If touring on non-standard parkrun days over the festive season (Christmas Day / New Years Day) then you may find the Christmas Compendium [link] quite a useful resource. It shows which venues are planning to put on extra events on these days and also the time that they will take place (start times can vary from the norm on these days).

Thank you to all out runners and volunteers who have added a tick to our whiteboard of interest over the last few weeks. We can confirm that Mount Edgcumbe parkrun will be offering a New Years Day run starting at 10.30am (whoOp! Lie-in!). There is a confirmed ferry running from Plymouth at 10.15. This will neither be in fancy dress, nor in reverse (although, carry-overs from the night before accepted with knowing nod). And, as is now tradition, we will follow the run with a prompt new-year's dip in the sea at Barnpool. Be sure to bring a flask of tea and the last mince pie to share on the beach among friends.

In addition, there has been an expressed interest for a Christmas Day run, too - great to have such a community drive for this. In order to make this official, we need to confirm our minimum of 6 volunteers (and some lead runners to take scanning duty). Please contact to add your name to the Christmas day roster - it will be 9am, if confirmed. Once these are filled, we will add to the compendium.

**UPDATE >> There will be no official, additional parkrun on Christmas Day. However, parkrun 'freedom runs' are available at any time.

Special Event: New Year’s Day

The news page that keeps on giving (it must be Christmas)!

True to parkrun tradition and further to the festive line-up for Christmas Eve, we now bring you confirmation of our New Year's Day special event. That's right, parkrun on a Sunday (goes giddy for a moment)! We are doubling your Mount Edgcumbe offering for the New Year weekend.

parkrun #39

The core team have put their heads together...

As we're an understanding bunch, we will be moving the start time to 9:30 for NYD only, granting a healthy lie-in. This will also be a reverse route so we will be starting in front of the house and running down hill. Still sat on the fence?

Then how about we follow the run with a new-year dip in the sea?! At approx 10:45, we will be jumping in at Barn Pool, just round the corner from the 'finish' to truly banish any foggy heads. Follow that with a flask of tea and a sausage sandwich (BYO) and you'll struggle to find a more invigorating start to the new year.*

Of course, we still need volunteers for the run

Join us for all or part. Bring the family or introduce a friend. Over the coming week, we will break 2000 individual runs since our first event back in January, with over 750 different runners climbing the hill for the views. Thanks for your support in creating what visitors consistently feedback on as 'a friendly, welcoming event in a great setting'. Whether you are home or away over Christmas and New Year, there is a parkrun just round the corner - #DFYB

*Please note that the additional activities (swim and tea) are not official 'parkrun' events, nor associated with the organisation.
