Temporary Change of Newbiggin-by-the-Sea parkrun course

The slipway at the RNLI will be undergoing major improvement works from October 2021 to March next year.  As a result we will be temporarily altering our course from this Saturday 23rd October.   The change of course only affects the first 350 metres.  Instead of starting on the sand near the slipway we will be starting at the other end of the Prom near the Horseshoe steps.  We will do the run brief at the Horseshoe steps.

The start is about 30 metres in front of the Horseshoe steps.  From there head north to the sailing club and do an 180 degree turn.  Head back south along the Prom to do our usual 2 laps finishing as normal on the Prom beside The Old Ship.  We will place a few marshals near the Maritime Centre at 8.40am to guide participants to the new start point.  We will also place the parkrun flag at the Horseshoe steps.  Usual banter guaranteed :-)

Look forward to seeing you all on Saturday :-)

International Women’s Day

Newbiggin-by-the-Sea parkrun will be joining together with other parkrun's all over the world to celebrate International Women's Day by hosting a special event on Saturday 7th March 2020, ahead of International Women's Day the following day.

Parkrun, in partnership with This Girl Can, have launched a special campaign which aims to break down many participation barriers faced by women and girls.  At our celebratory event we will be showing our support by encouraging as many women and girls as possible to participate as walkers, joggers, runners and volunteers.  It really doesn't matter how fit you are or whether you run, walk or volunteer.  We welcome all.  To show our support the suggested parkun code of dress on the day is PURPLE.

We would love you to join in the celebrations by bringing along a female friend, colleague or family member and walking, jogging, running or volunteering.  You could even just come along to cheer all the participants on or just come and watch and maybe have a coffee with our friendly team in Cafe Bertorelli's post event.

Look forward to seeing you on Saturday 7th March.

Newbie participants

At this Saturday's event (6th January) we will have a few friendly volunteers who will run / walk alongside anyone who is new to parkrun and wants to take their first steps in running.  Parkrun is a free event and open to anyone regardless of ability.  We'd like to help break down barriers & fears and help folks get out and do a parkrun in a fun, friendly and welcoming way.  It really doesn't matter how slow you are or what you look like, it's about participation and getting active.  Our volunteers are a friendly, supportive bunch.  If you fancy giving it a go register your details with parkrun at:
http://www.parkrun.org.uk/register/

Print out your unique barcode and bring it with you on the day.  We meet on the Promenade near Bertorelli's at 8:40am for a 9am start.

New Years Day Double 2018

Quick reminder about the parkrun double with our friends and neighbours at Druridge Bay tomorrow.  Newbiggin will start at 9am and Druridge Bay at 10:30am.  If you've not been to Newbiggin before there's parking at the Maritime Centre, NE64 6DB and Newbiggin Leisure Centre, NE64 6HG.  The new public toilets on Front Street will be open from 8:30am (in front of the Town Square to the side of the new council offices). The Endeavour cafe is opening at 9am if anyone needs to grab a takeaway coffee before heading to Druridge.  It takes approximately 20 minutes to get between the 2 venues and the best route is to head north from Newbiggin on the A1068.  For those using satnav the postcode for Druridge Bay Country Park is NE61 5BX.  We hope you enjoy this rare opportunity to do 2 parkruns (both counting) in one day. See you there

********ADVANCE WARNING!!!*****
As you're probably aware our hill section has been having a makeover this week. Unfortunately due to the adverse weather conditions the hardcore / gravel will not be laid until next week now. We cannot use the hill section as it is now.
We do not want to cancel the event so are going to change the course slightly, hence the advance warning. At the end of the Prom folks will have to make their way along the sand or grass track to the steps at Needles Eye. This will make it very tough. If you're up for a challenge and like a bit fun this may well suit you. If you're looking to chase down a PB or want an easier run then you may want to reconsider and head to Druridge or one of the Newcastle parkrun's.
We hope some of you may relish the challenge. Our sincerest apologies. Our new hill section will be ready to try out the following week on Saturday 2nd December.
Whatever you decide to do have a fab parkrun.
Thanks for bearing with us.
The Newbiggin-by-the-Sea parkrun Team
