#IWDparkrun “TGC”

In support of International Women's Day and with support from the This Girl Can Campaign, Newbury parkrun are encouraging more women and girls to join in and run with us on Saturday 7th March. We are therefore encouraging our existing parkrunners to bring a female friend, family member or work colleague and especially someone who has not been to parkrun before, to come and run/walk/jog around our lovely 5k course which goes around the very scenic Greenham Common.
We would love to see our runners dressed in purple , which is the chosen colour of the day, however this is completely optional , we simply want everyone to join us and enjoy the most motivating and inspiring way to start a Saturday Morning.

Newbury parkrun – New Year’s Day!

Please note that Newbury parkrun will be having a special New Year's Day run at the slightly later time of 10:30am on Thursday 1 January 2015. This will either give you the opportunity to sleep off the excesses of the previous evening or do as many of our runners are doing and run another local parkrun at 9am to do a "double" morning of parkrunning. Both Basingstoke and Andover are holding events at 9am!

We also welcome all visitors from other parkruns, and look forward to seeing you all tomorrow.

Enjoy your evening tonight, and we wish all our parkrunners a very happy new year!

Rachael Elliott (Newbury parkrun Event Director)

This Saturday’s parkrun

This Saturday's parkrun will be run in memory of Rob Berry who, as you will be aware by now, very sadly passed away after completing the London marathon on Sunday. Rob had run Newbury parkrun a number of times, and a lot of our runners have asked us to pay tribute to Rob this week. Rob was running the marathon for the National Osteoporosis Society, and the society are very kindly sending us some collection buckets and flags through. We would like to celebrate Rob as we remember him - happy and full of life. If you would like to wear blue with orange "accents" (the colours of the National Osteoporosis Society) then that would be great (but obviously entirely optional).

We would like to send our continued love and support to Rob's wife, Gwen, and his two young children.

New Year’s Day parkrun

Bring in the New Year with Newbury parkrun!

We are pleased to be holding a special parkrun at 10:30am on New Year's Day. This should be plenty of time to ensure any hedonistic antics from the previous night have been slept off, and also enough time to get even the most sleep addicted children to the start line on time!

For anyone looking for an extra challenge, you might like to consider a "parkrun double" on New Year's Day: Andover (Link), Basingstoke (Link) and Swindon (Link) are all hosting their events at 9am, so there should be enough time to do both without breaking any speed limits.

Thank you to everyone for a wonderful 2013 of parkrunning - and here's to an even greater year of success in 2014!
