parkrun and Fitbit taking steps together in a new partnership

parkrun UK HQ we are proud to introduce a new member of the family, Fitbit, the market leaders in wearable activity trackers.

Why have parkrun and Fitbit partnered?

Something we've become increasingly conscious of is that as much as we all love our parkrun on Saturday mornings (or Sundays for junior parkrun) a healthy lifestyle needs more than this – we need to bring more activity into our daily life and keep active throughout the week, not just on a Saturday. That’s where Fitbit come in, with products to help you track your activity, from daily steps and distance to stairs climbed, active minutes and even continuous heart rate monitoring, it’s a great way to get motivated and do more everyday!

It's not just activity that Fitbit measures though, personally I've been using Fitbit tracking devices for over six months and as parkrun has demanded increasing amounts of my time I've found that, like many of us, sleep has been neglected. My Fitbit's ability to accurately measure not just the amount of sleep I get, but the quality of that sleep, has been just as helpful in terms of getting me into bed an hour earlier each day as it has in encouraging me to walk between meetings rather than jumping on a bus.

What does this mean for parkrunners?

As our relationship grows we'll be working together in order to help members of the parkrun community improve their physical activity and health across a wide range of lifestyle choices. Soon you’ll be able to link your parkrun and Fitbit accounts, meaning parkrunners across the UK can form social groups not only around their free, weekly, timed run, but also in support of becoming more healthy through the week. In time we’ll also be setting challenges for individuals as well as whole parkruns, to see who can be the most active through the week.

To kick off our partnership, Fitbit are offering every parkrunner £15 off any Fitbit tracker* To take advantage of this exclusive parkrun offer simply follow this link and enter your parkrunner ID and name.

Finally, don’t forget to join the parkrun and Fitbit Facebook group Fitbit parkrun friends to join the discussions with other Fitbit using parkrunners, and get training tips and healthy lifestyle guides from Fitbit and its ambassadors, Chrissie Wellington and Greg Whyte.
