Bernie Ball stepped up to don the Race Director vest today, ably assisted by a small but dedicated team. Notable mention goes to Kerry who organised the volunteers (without the help of Charlie this week). Bernie showed her delegation skills by looking for a volunteer to write the run report - a task Brian Butler swiftly deflected to myself!
The volunteers were out early as usual to set the park up for today's run, a job they managed very well aside from some slightly dodgy tape work for the last corner! There is a core of volunteers who help week in week out, though we also rely on new people to come along and regular runners to take a turn every now and then.
Great running conditions today and Well Done to the 69 runners who took part in Noble's parkrun number 69. We had a good mix of regulars, first timers and visitors and all age groups were present. A trio of local race walkers: Jayne Farquhar, Rebecca Greatbatch and Sharon Cain switched to running for the day. 14 year old Finn Murphy from Peel ran very well and despite the fact that there was nobody close to his heels he put in an impressive sprint finish. Also impressive was Ian Duffers, who always gets round quickly despite pushing a pram!
Ian and Ali - if you are reading this you can rest assured that we are all coping well in your absence. Hope you are enjoying Australia. We actually had a visitor from Down Under today - Dr David Spindler who lives just South of Sydney. He was at parkrun with a friend from the IOM called Peter. I recognised Peter and thought maybe I had seen him at parkrun before. It was only when I asked his name did I realise that I had seen him on TV - he is of course Peter Kennaugh the Olympic and World Gold medal cyclist! David and Peter pictured below after completing today's run.
