Our 71st parkrun was upon us this weekend. It was bright, beautiful .....and utterly freezing!! The wind brought in some very cold temperatures but also a whole scutch of first timers and visitors 30 out of our 90 runners to be exact!
Our ever present matriarchs are still MIA (sunning themselves in Oz but we won’t mention it as we are all utterly jealous!!) so for one final week we had a ‘guest’ RD to fill Ian’s size 12.5 boots!
With all the first timers we still had many of our ever present runners with the first finisher Andrew Ronan securing a 3rd PB in a row and our lovely Mel Christian Running her 50th parkrun!! Mel has come such a long way - from her first run in a very respectable 34:10 to her current PB of 25:16!!! WOW!!
We are enjoying seeing some great younger runners joining us each week and the determination on their faces when they cross the line is nothing but inspiring! You can parkrun from the tender age of 4+ so the family can all get out and start the weekend off in a fresh and fun way.
As always, we encourage you to volunteer when you can, maybe have a routine of 5 runs then volunteer the next? Remember, 25 Marshal points gets you a snazzy T-shirt !!
Service resumes as normal next week with Ian and Ali back in charge. I’m sure they are so proud of how well parkrun has been run in their absence with our Charlie and Kerry holding down the fort and keeping things going like clockwork. Thanks so much guys!!
