Parkrun #91

Run Report 31 st August 2019
Welcome to this week’s run report, on Saturday we said a windy goodbye to our temporary holiday
home up at the Conrhenny for this year, now that the Manx Grand Prix and Classic TT are over we
will be moving back to our usual location in Nobles Park.
Early morning set-up was thoroughly wet, windy and miserable for our intrepid volunteers, in fact
we were anxious to see if there would be any trees down after all the gales in the night!! but luckily
all was well and by the time we had prepared the course the rain had stopped, leaving the just wind
to nicely blow-dry us all.
One slight drawback of our events at Conrhenny is the lack of nearby toilets, which we think
accounts for Rachel’s stance in the photo, whereas Geoff, Paul, Neil, (and Monroe the dog) all have a
vast array of trees to choose from lol.

Although the racing action on the mountain course was completed we still had some motorcycling
related guests staying on to enjoy their last few days on the island, giving us a good sprinkling of
visitors and some first timers.
Considering it was one of those ‘peep around the curtains and scuttle back to bed’ mornings, (well
that’s how I felt anyway lol) 71 hardy souls still lined up for the start, we also had a full roster of our
amazing volunteers willing to stand out there in the elements to keep us organised and safe, we
cannot thank you enough for your dedication, the efforts of each and every one of you is greatly
If anyone would like to help out for future events please opt-in to receive volunteer emails on your
profile, we rely hugely on the help of our volunteers to keep the event running, and even if you can
only commit to do one every now and then it is still a great help, and remember, several volunteer
roles such as set-up, tail walker, results processor still enable you to run too, so you don’t have to
miss out on a run to help us out, and by the way results processing is not as scary as it sounds, full
training over tea/coffee and toast is available to anyone who fancies a go, just let us know.
This week also saw another milestone as Dominic Millard hit his 50 th parkrun, there are few people
more dedicated than Dominic when it comes to parkrun, he’s not only a regular runner, but when
we are at Conrhenny he also cycles about 5 miles, mostly uphill, and often in the rain, to get there,
runs a regular low 23 minute 5k, and then cycles home again afterwards, that is one tough and
dedicated guy, well done Dominic!!

See you all at Nobles Park next Saturday, as we steam towards our 100 th event in just a couple of
months time.

This week 71 people ran, jogged and walked the course, of whom 7 were first timers and 5 recorded new Personal Bests. Representatives of 15 different clubs took part.

The event was made possible by 13 volunteers:

Nicola BOWKER • Terry BATES • Donna MIDDLETON • Ray SHOOTER • Charlie ELLIOTT • Kerry THOMPSON • Lynda QUAYLE • Paul COLLINS • Mary- Ellen KONARSKI • Jo HAMILTON • Silke MURPHY • Colin KELLY • Christine KELLY
