Nobles Parkrun 07/03/20 – International Women’s Day #iwd
Today, Nobles Parkrun turned purple in aid of International Women’s Day. So, what’s it all about? International Women’s Day is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women – while marking a call to action for accelerating gender equality. Here in the Isle of Man we led the way for millions of women worldwide , by being the first national parliament in the WORLD to give women the right to vote in national elections in 1881. The first International Women's Day was 30 years later, and today IWD belongs to all groups collectively everywhere and that includes parkrun! Parkrun and IWD are both striving for a common goal, inclusivity. Parkrun is for everyone and here at Nobles we welcome everyone, female, male, fast, slow, walk, jog, run, come one, come all! This was ably highlighted today by a visitor to Nobles parkrun from South Africa, the amazing Brian Bettridge. He started his parkrun journey age 80 and completed his 50th run on his 81st birthday!
We also had a special guest, Tanya from Women’s Refuge who shook her bucket and you generous lot donated an amazing £74.78! Some amazing mentions today, first of all you may have noticed the absence of one of our favorite marshals, Arnie…..he had a week off and completed his first ever parkrun! Well done Arnie! Also another regular at parkrun, Clark Partridge completed his 10th run in time for his birthday next week. Happy birthday Clark! Very well deserving of a mention was the amazing Harcourt family, all wearing matching IWD t shirts! You may have noticed today that our amazing team of marshals were all women, all wonderful and dedicated, giving their time for the community and feeling fantastic! (One of these wonder women was Lynda Quayle, who celebrates her birthday on Sunday. Have a great day Lynda!) Run Director was the ever fabulous Ali Kirby, meaning Ian could have a well deserved rest….of sorts! Having our wonderful parkrun every week relies heavily on our amazing volunteers, if you fancy joining our merry band of super friendly marshals, please let us know!
This week 180 people ran, jogged and walked the course, of whom 22 were first timers and 52 recorded new Personal Bests. Representatives of 11 different clubs took part.
