Event Cancelled – Boxing Day

We were very much looking forward to the Boxing Day event, however following heavy overnight and this morning our course is not fit to hold a run. The safety of the runners is our priority and the running conditions are far from ideal. We have therefore taken the decision to cancel today's event.

We hope to be back next week, Sunday 2 January.

Nonsuch juniors restart

We are pleased to accounce that Nonsuch junior parkrun will be restarting on Sunday 13 June at the usual time of 9am. We'd like to thank Epsom & Ewell Borough Council for giving us permission to restart the event.

Please note that junior parkruns are only open for 4-10 year olds at present in line with the parkrun Covid-19 Framework. More details on the framework can be found on the parkrun volunteer hub: https://volunteer.parkrun.com/principles/open-with-covid-19-management-system.

As always, the event cannot take place without the help of 30 volunteers each week, so if you are able to help then please email the office at nonsuch-juniors@parkrun.com.

Those attending at the event are encouraged to walk, cycle, or use public transport where possible. Car Parking is available at the Stoneleigh, Sparrow Farm and Cheam entrances. In order to maintain our good relationship with the Park Management and other park users, those attending the event are asked not to park at the Mansion House Car Park in order to leave this free for other park users.

We look forward to seeing you on June 13th!

A day in the life of a parkrun Run Director

Report by James Ball

As I was due to be the Run Director this Sunday, I thought I’d share with you a day (morning) in the life of a Run Director.

The Run Director takes charge of the event on a particular day alongside the Volunteer Coordinator, who prepares the volunteer roster during the week and ensures that we have enough helpers for the event.

You’ll see the Run Director at the start line giving the run briefing, but there’s a lot more that happens before and after the run.

07:30am – I leave my house and stroll through the park to the parkrun shed at the Mansion House.

The Avenue

07:45am – I arrive at the shed and load the trolley with the equipment to take down to the start line.

08:00-8:30am – Pre-event setup: a number of volunteers arrive early to lay out the cones, marshal posts, roundabout, finish funnel and barcode scanning area.

Pre-event setup

08:30am – Volunteers start arriving at the gazebo.

08:45am – New Runners Briefing takes place for those who are new to parkrun.

08:50am – I carry out the pre-run briefing for the volunteers. The marshals take their positions along the course.

The Volunteers

08:55am – I carry out the run briefing, award wristbands to those who have reached milestones and lead the warm up.

Runners briefing

09:00am – The run starts!

The start!

09:00-09:30am – Cheer on the runners at the half way point and watch them cross the finish line. I note down any barcodes which haven’t scanned properly.

Runners crossing the finish line

09:30-09:40am – Event close down: volunteers pack away the equipment and head back to the shed.

09:55am – Volunteers retire to the Nonsuch Pantry for a coffee and cake. Runners love cake! As well as eating cake we also sort the finish tokens in preparation for the next event.

10:15am – I leave the Mansion House and stroll back home through the park.

10:30-11:00 – I process the results using WebFMS (parkrun’s unique results processing system). WebFMS matches your name, position number, and the time at which you crossed the finish line to produce the results which then appear on the website.

Another parkrun event done and dusted!

Hi everyone

I wanted to let you know that we have just spent £80 of our funds on new finish tokens. When we began Nonsuch juniors we were given a full set of tokens plus two lots of replacement stickers so we can make new ones up when they go missing. However, we have now lost so many that we didn't even have enough stickers to replace some tokens.

We are extremely grateful to everyone who has contributed to our fund but we wish we were spending the money on other items!

Please please please leave your finish tokens with us after each run - if you find a rogue one at home please bring it back and drop it in our bucket, no questions asked!

If you wish to donate, here is the link...

The Sutton 10k takes place in the park on Sunday 19th May therefore our event is cancelled that day.
