Course B – 19th October 2019

The current weather means that it is time to switch to Course B - the 'Winter course'. We change to a modified course for runner safety and to preserve the tracks in the park.  We will be using this course for the next few months.  There are a few things to note for those not familiar with Course B:

  1. RUN on the LEFT.  Pass on the right. This is very important because the lead bike & lead runners will catch and pass more runners. (*).
  2. This is a 2.5 lap course - only enter the finish straight [7[ after you have completed the correct number of laps.
  3. Pre-run brief is held by the Gazebo in the centre of the park - see the map below.
  4. Start - this is the same as Course A.
  5. Marshall posts & half way are different - see map.
  6. Headphones - we cannot stop you using them but please keep to the left and set you volume so that you can hear instructions from the volunteers especially the lead bike.

CourseB-Marshals-19Jan19-labeled

(*) - We often get asked why we run on a different side on Course B.  It is to allow the finishers to enter the finish straight without cutting across the line of those starting another lap

Event 418 – 7.9.19 – Run Results

Please note if there are any issues with the results such as you aren't included but you were scanned or any other queries then please get in touch with nonsuch@parkrun.com during the course of the weekend of the parkrun in question. The Run Director does a results sweep on a Sunday evening and we then close the event as we don't want to be constantly reviewing the results. We have had a few requests to look into events that are several weeks old. We cannot do this. Thanks Event Director at Nonsuch parkrun.

Event 418 – 7.9.19 – Run Report

Your run this week for event 418 at Nonsuch Park was directed by Paul Carter and he had a new public address system and a new stool to stand on rather than the usual tree stump. These two things have changed since last I was on tour with you in December 2018. I ran my twelfth event at Nonsuch on Saturday having first come along to run there on 30/08/2014 for event 155 coming in position 466 out of a total of 519 runners in a time of 33.22. On my sixth run with you on the 30/05/2017, event 297 I finished in position 530 with 703 of us running that day and finishing in a time of 31.14 (my pb for Nonsuch) my twelfth on Saturday at event 418 finishing in position 720 in a time of 35.53 (that's the fastest I have run anywhere since April 2018) with another 107 finishing behind me from a total of 827 of us. That is another 360 people running now and shows us how parkrun is catching on. (RUN DIRECTOR) was ably
assisted by 52 volunteers, without whom parkrun would be simply
impossible. Thanks to each of them for giving up their time to make this
event the success that it is and encouraging us on and around and sorting
us out at the start and the finish and everything that goes on in the
background that a lot of us are not aware of, to bring us this free event
each Saturday.
As I said 827 people managed to complete this flat dry course on such a
warm day, which is an incredible number. Amongst them were 66 first
time runners. Welcome to all of you and we hope you enjoyed running at
Nonsuch and will be back again next week.
There were also an incredible number of personal bests - 144 in total! That
is a fantastic achievement in the heat and with the vast amount or runners
out on the course overtaking and running their own personal goal to just
finish whether it be slow or fast.
As far as milestone runs are concerned, there were a few. Catherine Lees,
Adrian Butcher and Bryn Reynolds each earned their red t-shirt by
completing their 50th run. Two made it into the black (t-shirt) by
completing their century 100th run Claire Miller and Terrance Lee. There
were an amazing 36 runners (too many to mention) who have run over 250
times with 504 runs (Roger Bryant) and the only blue t shirt running,
topping the table.
On checking back over my visits to Nonsuch one fact became apparent to
me, the first runner home today Ollie Garrod, came first on all three
occasions of my runs mentioned above. Ollie first started parkrunning on
17th September 2011 and has to date run 326 parkruns on numerous
courses up and down the country with 130 runs at Nonsuch and 196 other
courses. I started my parkrun adventure on 24th September 2011, one
week later than Ollie and I have to date run 374 parkruns. Ollie's time in
August 2014 was 16.16, May 2017 he ran 16.23 and on Saturday he ran 15.42 ….

My pb of 30.32 on my home course at medina iow was 8 years old in
February 2019, but I'm still happy to run each week and once you start this
parkrun journey, you just have to keep going.
Rob Pinchbeck will be your run director next week for event 419 and the
following week on the 21st September, Nonsuch are celebrating their 8th
birthday and will have exciting things going on, so why not go along and
run with them and help them celebrate by maybe topping 1000 runners
for one run!!
It was a pleasure to run with you as always and I will be back soon.
Joy Furmidge from Medina parkrun Isle of Wight
