Another Saturday, another fantastic parkrun, bring it up 351 events and counting at The Racecourse. The cold weather and the threat of ice wasn’t enough to deter 472 athletes, including 31 doing their first run here, of which 19 keen people were doing their first parkrun ever. We hope you enjoyed it and will still be doing it later in the year in kinder weather.
Despite my complaints, the cold weather obviously worked for a lot of you, a huge 61 athletes recorded a new personal best. This makes all my excuses about “conditions” a little harder to really commit to.
This week saw representatives of 30 different clubs take part, and visitors from across the country – including Fulham, Wimpole Estate, Woodley, Coventry and Linford Wood (yes that was me – had to name drop). I will certainly make a return after enjoying my visit and hope you will do the same!
What struck me on my first visit to Northampton first of all, was the sheer number of you! Coming from a parkrun that regularly gets under 200 participants it was great to see so many people, even better to see how well organized everything was, and even better still to experience the support everyone gave each other. The amount of cheer everyone gave as they jostled for position, and as they lapped each other later on was great.
Milestones this week for James Skinner on his 10th run, both Natasha Kington and Robyn Thorman on their 50th, and Jason Goss on his 100th. Unofficial kudos also go to Claire Dixon on her 150th.
This event was made possible by 29 hi-vis heroes, including our great photographer whose work is showcased on our Facebook page – see if you can spot yourself.
