So how many runners would we get on the first event? There have been many guesses over the last few days. We were amazed when we had 163!!

IMG_5398  The course was explained to everyone by Brian Allen who amusingly described the course hazard “the bollards!” and went on to thank all of the sponsors including thank to the local sponsors Affinity Sutton, Bromley MyTime and Orpington Road Runners.

So what about the run? Local man Jason Cherriman was the first to cross the line, making sure he hadn’t tired himself out because he hada race in the afternoon! Plenty of support and encouragement from the marshals on the way round and plenty of pictures have been taken which you can find on our Facebook page ‘Orpington parkrun’ and on Flickr. There were lots of smiley faces so we assumed that you all enjoyed it. Wow we had 163 PBs for the course…that’s a record we won’t be beating!

IMG_5561 One thing that you certainly did enjoy was the tea and cakes after the run. An amazing spread of food was on offer and displayed and organised by our amazing catering team Lynda Allen and Zoe Wright. Thanks ladies it was amazing.

Is there room for improvement? Yes, we need to improve the visibility of the ‘bollards’ and the race director needs to encourage the runners to keep to one side when on the tree lined path on the second lap to allow other park users to get by. Oh and we need signs to direct people to the rear of the pavilion where the main toilets are and organise recycling containers. If you have any other feedback please let us know.

Thank you to all our volunteers today all our runners, thanks for making it such a special day.
