Pennington Flash parkrun Event Report 320

Pennington Flash; a wonderful location for a parkrun even in the harsh winter.  This morning would be no different, for the #320th event taking place.

Arriving at Pennington slightly earlier than usual I had opportunity to enjoy the scenery at the Flash as I made my way up to the start line.  The ducks and swans were enjoying the calm blue lake, albeit in the distance you could see the swimmers splashing through the water..quite possibly training for next week’s Iron Man.  Blue skies above, with the odd fluffy cloud also meant it would be another pleasant day; decent conditions for those motivated enough to get out of bed early on a Saturday morning!

To keep within the blue theme, today’s volunteer roster would be filled by the blue hoodies ‘n tees of Astley & Tyldesley Road Runners, with road captain Chris Bennett as the run director.   A&T are a local non elitist running club who frequently participate at the Flash and are very much a part of the parkrun community. They can be contacted via email – Christopher_bennett_9@hotmail.com.  Speaking of which, there would be no parkrun if it weren't for those people willing to give up a little time on a Saturday morning.  If you haven’t already done so yet, I would highly recommend taking the time to read about the various roles and how your contribution can help keep this event running. You don’t even need to be a runner! ...and for your efforts, after volunteering 25 times you will receive the prized Purple Volunteer tee...free of charge.  In addition to providing a full complement of volunteers, A&T also had a range of pacers running at intervals between 21 and 34 minutes, put together by Jon Hall - a great opportunity to sneak in a PB, especially in the dry and mud/puddle free conditions.

There was another good turnout at the flash with 200 participants, excluding buggies and paws. :) Visiting us today were representatives from fairly local clubs over the Greater Manchester, Lancashire and Cheshire districts but we also welcomed some from further afield.. down from the Lakes, and up from Fulham!  Please visit us again soon.  In addition, there were 25 first timers who we hope enjoyed their experience and will come again and a staggering 48 PB’s, hopefully motivated by the pacers and also the premise of Peter Worthington’s cakes!

Only one notable milestone today.. A&Ts very own Tim Campbell who reached his 100th parkrun and earned his black t-shirt. Well done! :)
