The first Parkrun of the month saw 273 runners, joggers and walkers attempt to complete the 5k course at Frenchfields in extremely blustery conditions. Progress was difficult on sections where the headwind really hit hard. Despite this an astonishing 24 people crossed the line in new personal best times. In all there were also 24 running clubs represented and 22 very brave first time runners – don’t worry, there will be easier days !
As ever at Parkrun, we are indebted to our wonderful volunteers, 30 of whom made the event possible today including our Pacers. Running at 25, 27 and 29 minutes, they enable runners to achieve personal targets – or just guide people round at consistent pace. Running at a set speed for 5k is not as easy as they make it look !
In terms of results, first home today was Ralph Lawson in a personal best time of 18:47. He was followed by Steven Nicholson, with teenager Finlay Harrison a fine third. First woman home was Annabel Mason of Wakefield District Harriers, closely followed by Eden Runners Nicola King and Karen Bridge. Ten year old Toby Davies completed his 50th Parkrun today, coming an excellent 54th overall. Batjilmaa Fallows also completed her 50th run today. Congratulations to you both.
Finally, after last week’s incident I’m glad to report that the gentleman concerned is recovering well and hoping to return home soon. Our thanks again to all who helped, both immediately at the scene and the emergency services who reacted so swiftly. We hope to raise funds for the Great North Air Ambulance at future Parkruns.
