May the 4th be with you Pomphrey Hill

Pomphrey Hill event #269 - 04/05/2019

Star Wars Day, May the 4th be with you event

I am a massive Star Wars fan, and one of my earliest memories of when I was little was wishing that I could be Luke Skywalker. I loved to watch it on the TV and collected the old Hasbro toys. I'm not a total Star Wars nerd but just love the story, characters, spaceships and the thought that it could all be happening in a galaxy far, far away. As soon as I settled into the role of Run Director, especially after a few "Speak like a Pirate Day" events, I thought about having a Star Wars event at Pomphrey Hill. It was back in December of 2017 that I discovered May the 4th fell on a parkrun Saturday and I immediately added my name as an RD for that day. Sad you may say, but yesterdays event was an amazing thing.

269th PH Parkrun 000001-1 Star Wars Costumes

It was good to see so many of you parkrunners make an effort to dress up for the event. We had Princess Leia, Darth Vader, Luke Skywalker, Rey, R2-D2, Chewbacca, Yoda, Stormtroopers, First Order Troops, Jyn Erso, Jedi Knights, Death Troopers, a Tie-Fighter and even the Death Star. Thanks to everyone who got involved and put on a show. I hope you all enjoyed my Star Wars pre-run brief before the run, took me a while to come up with that.

Julie, centre of shot, has done 77 of her 100 runs at Pomphrey Hill

We would also like to congratulate James Dorrell for completing his 13 weeks of his Duke of Edinburgh Bronze qualification, he's been a fantastic volunteer and has worked hard at every role. But the volunteer crown has to go to our superstar Mr Stephen Jenkins who did his 100th volunteer stint as a Death Trooper Tail Walker. It was so lovely that Janet did her 100th parkrun and Stephen did his 100th volunteer role together, they are such an amazing couple who brighten up our Saturday mornings.

This run report has taken me longer that normal to produce because of the numerous photos that Gary Woodruff took at the event. It was so difficult to pick photos to use as there are so many great shots. Please take a look at the full album on this link https://www.parkrun.org.uk/pomphreyhill/photos
