Pontefract parkrun # 185 – 13/12/2014

Brrrrr.... That was chilly!

Yesterday morning I'm quite sure many people looked out of their bedroom windows, saw the frost and went back to bed. 94 hardy runners weren't put off, pulled on their running kit and came for a run in the park. This run wasn't about the runners though, it was all about the volunteers. While the runners were all munching their cornflakes, Steve Berry, Run Director, was anxiously walking around the course. Before you'd laced up your trainers a small group of dedicated volunteers was running the alternative course checking it for safety. Others were checking the timers and scanners and setting up the funnel. At the very last minute it was touch and go but with some extra marshals drafted in and wrapped up warm, we were good to go.

Three cheers to the volunteers!

Only one runner, Jenny Hannon, ran her first parkrun with us yesterday, what a day to pick! We hope we will see you again soon? We also welcomed tourists from Sheffield, Roundhay and Newcastle. We were surprised to see any PBs given the conditions but four runners pulled one out of the bag, great running Jane Bennett, Michael Casey, Tony Walsh and Nicoleta Raileanu!
Terry Forrest led the field home for the 20th time with Christine McCarthy leading the ladies home. Full results can be found here.

Many thanks to Georgia Kees of Sweatshop who took some great pictures yesterday! You can find them here.
