Luckily, the weather was kinder to us this year with grey skies and remarkably warm, a far cry from a year earlier where we battled torrential rain and wind !

I can't believe it has been almost a year since our very 1st run which took place on Sunday 3rd January in the most horrendous weather of torrential rain and gale force winds.  It certainly threw us a curveball for our inaugural event as we had to immediately revert to our wet weather course due the cricket oval being flooded........nothing like keeping a new core team on their toes !!  Despite the weather, 62 hardy children ran that day and 28 volunteers donned their full waterproofs and we actually had a great time.

NIK_6235

During our first year, we have had an average of 145 runners every week with our attendance record standing at 221 in one single event in May - that was a busy one !  1277 different children have run during the year and the total distance ran is a whopping 14,230KM's.....Awesome !!

We have had to cancel 2 events during this year due to other events in Poole park. There will be no run on Christmas Day or New Years day but we will be back as usual on Sunday 8th January 2017.

There is a lot that goes on behind the scenes to make junior parkrun happen every week, and I'd like to say a massive thank you to my core team for all their hard work during the year:- Victoria Turner, Mike Cure, Martin Yelling, Anne Rutherford, Andy Trayford, Kelly Lucas, Karila Faulkner and to our new recruits for 2017, David Shepherd and Harriet Bradstock.  I'd also like to thank every single one of you who volunteered and donned the High Viz during this year. Without you all, parkrun can't work.

I'm looking forward to the next year being as brilliant as this one.

Happy Christmas and Happy New Year to you all !

Event 39 October 2nd

First up- a huge thank you to all of our volunteers this week!

With the Bournemouth Marathon Festival on this weekend, many of our regular helpers were away meaning we were looking a bit short on marshals up until Saturday evening. As always though, brilliant parents and friends stepped in to help. The event can't go on without these people so please say thank you when you can- I know it's really appreciated when kids particularly say a little thank you as they run past.

We had 160 children run today, many with Bournemouth Marathon Festival shirts on, so well done to those who ran twice this weekend. Also congratulations to those that collected their half marathon and marathon wrist bands. If you weren't called out or couldn't make it this week, we'll get to you next Sunday. Don't forget you'll need to have completed 11 or 21 runs respectively.

Finally just a reminder to parents- please make sure you're child takes a finishing token just after the finish line, then you can give them their barcode if needed. At times we've got several children coming through at once and the priority has to be giving out the finish token (which confirms their place).

Here are the results for our top three boys and girls this week- well done and see you next Sunday! (Kelly- RD/superman warm up aficionado)

1 Fergus TAYLOR 07:37
2 George FARLEY 07:42
3 Harry FARLEY 07:44

1 Abbi SLADE 08:26
2 Amelia REYNOLDS 08:32

Poole junior parkrun #38

Poole junior parkrun
Event number 38
25th September 2016

We started off with a bit of a grey morning but by the time the children had assembled on the start line the clouds broke to glorious sunshine! We were delighted to have 211 juniors cross the finish line today with 48 running their fastest times so far this year! Well done to you all for a really great effort. Also I big Well Done to all the fabulous volunteers who kept the morning running smoothly - some received a very busy initiation to new job roles they hadn't performed before and rose brilliantly to the challenge of 211 children!!

Run report for 7/8/16

Another week at Junior Parkrun complete! We had 29 First timers, visitors from Staffordshire and London, as well as 25 personal bests run, great work juniors well done! It was also my first time as Run Director, what does that mean? Well, the Run Director is the person who wears the blue and white vest on Sunday morning but really the work goes on during the week in the lead up to Sunday morning. I had to make sure there were enough volunteers to fill all the positions, put calls out on email and Facebook when I needed some more people to help and decide which role people would do. Simple! Yet somehow nerve wracking at the same time. But all went well and I am slowly overcoming my fear of public speaking, having practise as warm up leader over the few weeks prior was very helpful yet still there is that moment when all eyes are on you and your brain goes blank. Very helpful brain, thank you. I was very impressed that the juniors do listen to the Run Directors talk each time as you could all tell me that we don't allow dogs on the course and we ask buggies to start at the back so we reduce the risk of little feet getting tripped up! More juniors are also reaching their milestone wrist bands of half marathon and marathon which is fantastic! That means we have some regulars that are hopefully loving Sunday mornings as much as the volunteers who come and stand in the fluorescent yellow vests.

Statistics for the week!

“Poole junior Parkrun started on 3rd January 2016, and since then 973 different runners, including participants from 18 athletics clubs, have completed 4,601 runs covering a total distance of 9,202km, and there have been 1,272 new Personal Bests.”

This is my favourite and amazing to think we have had nearly 1000 different runners since January!!
