Event #10, 27 June 2015: Mind the geese ;)

Luckily the geese didn't impede a lovely parkrun today. You can view photos here. Thanks to Andy McKay once again for capturing the event.

A big welcome to our first timers and visitors (57 of you), especially Steve Webb from Leeds, Paul Allcoat from Kinross, Neil Jones and Andrew Anderson from Dunbar, Mark Watson from London, and Andy Russell and Isobel Longley-Cook from Middlesbrough. 39 PBs today as well! Good work everyone!

Congratulations to Erin and Lizzie Joyce who joined the Junior 10 club today- Well Done girls! Please do let us know if you're coming up to a parkrun milestone, we like to recognise these achievements in the pre-run briefing. There's an update on the Milestone tshirts here.

The park is in full bloom and we're aware this is causing problems at the finish funnel with low hanging branches. We're not sure of the solution yet but next week we're going to try something new to see if we can avoid the leaves and make the funnel more obvious - we are still getting folk trying to avoid the funnel at the end. I also noticed out on the course that some of the trees have low hanging branches, we're not lumberjacks so use your common sense and don't run through them or you'll likely put your eye out. Having run the course myself yesterday I can assure you all that these hazards are easily avoided by keeping to the left of the path.

Thanks to all our volunteers without whom parkrun doesn't happen: Ally PRINGLE • Andrew SMITH • Andy MCKAY • Bob STILL • Ciara WEBB • David LIMMER • Etta WATTERS • Gregor MACDONALD • Laura PLUMB • Lorraine SYME-SMITH • Mary CRYAN • Richard MUDIE • Sandy MACDONALD • Sharon MCLEAY • Shona Susanne MACDONALD • Siobhan GRAHAM • Stephen WEBB • Susan MORRISON. A particular thanks from me to Susan, Sandy and Richard - their help meant that I could run my first ever Portobello parkrun! I must say, it was an emotional moment for me heading out with the pack for the first time. As always, we need volunteers for the coming weeks and this is particularly obvious over the summer months. You can view the future roster here. If everyone volunteered just three times a year we wouldn't have any issues filling the rosters. I don't like having to nag for folk to step up so make my life easier and get in touch! portobellohelpers@parkrun.com
