Event #99, 1 April 2017: The Formation Lap

Thanks to all who passed positive comment on our April Fool joke this morning! Rest assured formation laps are not required at parkrun ;)

We've had a brilliant response to calls for volunteers recently, so much so that we have full rosters for the next two weeks! Thank you all so much. No volunteers, no parkrun. Next weekend is our 100th parkrun at Portobello, but with our birthday run the week after we'll focus our celebrations on that.

This week 287 people ran, jogged and walked the course, of whom 36 were first timers and 70 recorded new Personal Bests. Representatives of 27 different clubs took part.

The event was made possible by 17 volunteers.

Male placings:
Adam PATERSON (SM30-34) of Kent AC, was first over the line in 17:45 - first appearance.
Richard LAUCHT (VM35-39) of Portobello RC, was second over the line in 18:08.
Robert MAIN (VM40-44) of Portobello RC, was third over the line in 18:32.

Female placings:
Nikki Elise GIBSON (SW25-29) of Edinburgh AC, was first (23rd overall) over the line in 20:31 - second time in 6 appearances.
Rachael SINCLAIR (VW35-39) (Unattached) was second (50th overall) over the line in 22:23 - was first to finish once before.
Leana ALLISON (SW20-24) (Unattached) was third (51st overall) over the line in 22:24.

The three highest age grades were recorded by:
Grant NOBLE (VM55-59) – 81.67% for the time 18:49 (6th overall).
Ian R JOHNSTON (VM55-59) – 81.26% for the time 19:34 (11th overall).
James MAYERS (VM50-54) – 76.55% for the time 19:54 (16th overall).

The female record is held by Shona MCINTOSH who recorded a time of 00:17:47 on 11th March 2017 (event number 96).
The male record is held by Andrew DOUGLAS who recorded a time of 00:15:21 on 7th November 2015 (event number 29).
The Age Grade course record is held by Elizabeth GILCHRIST who recorded 90.65% (24:58) on 31st October 2015 (event number 28).

Portobello parkrun, Edinburgh started on 18th April 2015. Since then 4,928 participants have completed 21,965 parkruns covering a total distance of 109,825 km, including 4,656 new Personal Bests.
