Event #221, 10th August 2019

Portobello parkrun, Edinburgh
Event number 221
10th August 2019

“Some parkruns just have that vibe, and this one has it...The most friendly parkrun, ever! The best course profile, I’ll definitely be back...” Just some of the nice comments made to me this morning. So there you have it folks, this one is the best so no need to go anywhere else ;P

After a lot of rain this week, we had a water feature to negotiate just after the underpass. Luckily this just added to the fun. The rain stayed away and meant that we ended up with a lot of hot and sweaty parkrunners at the end. Please remember to take it a bit easier if it is hot as it takes more out of you!

We lost token 163 today. If you have it, please return next week. You can just place it in a blue bucket or hand it to a volunteer.

We struggled to fill the volunteer slots this week, which was surprising considering we had such a high turnout. If you’d like to volunteer, please mail us at portobello@parkrun.com, stating the date you can volunteer, your barcode number and the role you’d like to do (check on the website for available roles). If you’ve never volunteered or done a particular role before, don’t worry; you’ll be given training and we’ll check you’re ok during the run. Being a funnel manager is a great way to get into volunteering; you just need to herd runners along the funnel to collect their tokens. We’re a friendly bunch (did I mention that?!), we’ll not bite. If you'd like to shadow someone in a role new to you, just let us know and we'll set something up for you.

This week 380 people ran, jogged and walked the course, of whom 71 were first timers and 33 recorded new Personal Bests. Representatives of 48 different clubs took part.

The event was made possible by 23 volunteers:

Sandy MACDONALD • Lynne CARTER • Robert MAIN • Ciaron FORREST • Gavin WILLSHAW • Richard MUDIE • Patrick NELIS • Mellony BERTRAM • Gary HALL • Gordon TURNBULL • Aj GOODSIR • Jennie SIMPSON • James HOULDING • Naomi SIMPSON • Isaac SIMPSON • Claire HOULDING • Kuba SKRZYNIARZ • Justine STANSFIELD • Caroline DESMULLIEZ • Elinor EVANS • Tom KERR • David MILNE • Peter GERRARD
