Event #216, 6 July 2019: Anyone for te..parkrun!

So the fine weather continued and while some thoughts this week have turned to action at Wimbledon this week, others turned to their usual Saturday morning action here at parkrun.  And I tell you what, judging by some of what I saw today just as much greenery at Figgate park as at SW19 currently!  Hopefully you all enjoyed your morning as much as I did myself.

We've had a good number of "aces" today also, firstly all tokens returned with none missing so thanks to everybody for that today.  Also any event be it Wimbledon or a parkrun event needs its team of volunteers behind the scenes to ensure all runs well...after the appeals on facebook this week and my own during the pre-run brief this morning - a huge thank you to all those who came found me afterwards and stepped up for volunteering, as a result i'm happy to say we now have a full rota for next week.  Lets keep that momentum going - (like Federer/Nadal through the mens draw) this period is always tricky with people away - please check out the volunteer rota found here and email in with your barcode number, date and preferred role (if any) portobello@parkrun.com

We had a few milestone achievements today as well:

Rebekah Knipe 10th junior run (part of a group of 9 Knipe family on course today - 5 visiting from Newcastle Australia!) Rebekah celebrated a pb today also so congratulations!

Keith Adamson 50th run also landing a pb today so congratulations to you too!

Fiona McKenzie 25th volunteer today - thank you for all your help!

Worth also just mentioning an excellent run today from our 1st finisher Peter Avent coming in with a pb and finishing 20 secs shy of the mens course record (which has stood since November 2015!  Certainly had us volunteers excited!)

This week 313 people ran, jogged and walked the course, of whom 41 were first timers and 56 recorded new Personal Bests. Representatives of 32 different clubs took part.

The event was made possible by 21 volunteers:

Fiona M MACKENZIE • Sarah DAVIS • Sheila MASSON • Iain PEARCE • Lynne CARTER • Wendy MCFARLANE • Ann RAUTENBACH • Robert MAIN • Ciaron FORREST • Gavin WILLSHAW • Christian BARLOW • Kate MURRAY • Richard MUDIE • Aj GOODSIR • Rachel SLASKI • Elaine BERRI • Catherine CUMMING • Luca BASSO • Caroline DESMULLIEZ • David MILNE • Katie NEVANS

Today's full results and a complete event history can be found on the Portobello parkrun, Edinburgh Results Page.

The male record is held by Andrew DOUGLAS who recorded a time of 15:21 on 7th November 2015 (event number 29).
The female record is held by Jo WILLIAMS who recorded a time of 17:13 on 26th May 2018 (event number 157).
The Age Grade course record is held by Susan BURNS who recorded 92.66% (20:39) on 28th July 2018 (event number 166).

Portobello parkrun, Edinburgh started on 18th April 2015. Since then 10,637 participants have completed 58,779 parkruns covering a total distance of 293,895 km, including 10,412 new Personal Bests. A total of 833 individuals have volunteered 4,303 times.

Event #103 29 April 2017

This week the Portobello parkrun show was passed to the hands of me, Richard Mudie and Elaine Berri and despite a brief rain sprinkle at the start line, things went pretty smoothly with 285 people completing the course, of whom 38 were first timers so welcome to (amongst others) Jackie Radin, Malcolm Clark and Rui Hunter.  The dry, mild weather provided great running conditions as 76 of you recorded new Personal Bests. So congratulations to (among others) Andrew Mylne, Morgan Lewis-Wilson and Rachel Murray. It was also good to see some parkrunners return having taken part in the London marathon last weekend and give some inspiration to those nervy/brave/crazy souls including myself heading for the Edinburgh marathon in 4 weeks (still reckon I'm at least 2 of those!)

We have a new member of the 50 club welcome and congratulations to Susan Twissell – anybody with a parkrun anniversary coming up and would like a mention either drop us a message or have a word with that day's run director.

A big voluncheers to all the volunteers who helped today,

Deirdre BARCLAY, Joseph BARTLETT, Luca BASSO, Elaine BERRI, Aspasia BIZOPOULOU, Christine CARLTON, Tom KEMPTON, Emma LOUGHEED, Wendy MCFARLANE, Richard MUDIE, Jennifer O'NEILL, Amanda ROBERTSON, Sophie ROWE, Ian A SMITH, Lorraine SYME-SMITH, Heike ULFERTS, Merryn ULFERTS KILPATRICK, Gavin WILLSHAW.

We've been very fortunate filling volunteer rota recently, however we do have some spaces over the coming weeks on the rota, so please take a look online at http://www.parkrun.org.uk/portobello/futureroster/ and drop us an email if you feel you can help. Remember we do give volunteers full briefing before you start and won’t ask you to do anything your not capable or happy with.
We also had flyers being given out for the Portobello beach race on 11th June (GOT to be sunny in that scenario right?) But seriously if you missed the information today more details on www.portobellorunners.co.uk/porty-beach-race
